SWIRL: Our School Goal

SWIRL is The Washington Middle School Goal this year. We wanted you all to know what we are focusing on this year and what you can expect to hear from your learners. SWIRL stands for Speaking, Writing, Interacting, Reading, and Listening.


CONFERENCES: We are excited to share what we have been practicing and learning in regards to SWIRL with each of you at family conferences on Thursday November 18th. Conferences are from 1-7pm and can be in-person or virtual. Please click here to sign up for a time slot.

A Message from the Manitowoc Public Library

One of the databases your students have access to with their Virtual Library Cards is Overdrive/Libby. Overdrive/Libby is an online library of eBooks, eAudiobooks, and streaming movies that students can check out to a device with their Virtual Library Card. We have put together a handout of instructions for parents who may wish to limit the content their children can see on this platform.

FREE Thanksgiving Dinner

The Manitowoc County Hunger Coalition-in partnership with Roncalli High School- is hosting a FREE Thanksgiving Community Dinner on Thursday, November 25, 11:30am-1:30pm at Roncalli High School. To reserve a meal, call the United Way Office at (920)(682-8888 by Friday, November 19. Dine in or pick up a meal to go.

School Nurse Update

We are pleased to announce that the MPSD is providing FREE, on-site COVID testing for our staff, students and family members living in the same household!

Here is how it will work:


What are the days and hours that I can receive a COVID test?

  • Testing will begin on Thursday, October 21, 2021.

  • Testing will be available daily Monday through Friday from 8am - 4:30pm, and on Saturdays from Noon-4pm. There will be no testing on Sunday.


Where will the testing be conducted?

  • The testing site will be the McKinley Building located at 1010 Huron Street in Manitowoc. Enter through the front/main door of the building which is on Huron Street. Look for the green canopy above the door.


Who is eligible to use the MPSD on-site COVID test site?

  • ONLY staff, students, and their family members (any age) who live in the same household are able to use the testing site.


Is there a cost for the COVID Test?

  • There is NO cost for the COVID test.


Will students need parental consent?

  • YES, students under age 18 must have a parent or legal guardian accompany them to the test site. The parent / legal guardian will sign the consent form at the time of testing at the test site. The consent forms are also available on our website to review, print and sign prior to the appointment if you prefer.


How do I sign up for a COVID test at the MPSD on-site Huron Street test location?

  • You must register in advance and online by completing this online form that includes a screening questionnaire and other requested information: register.covidconnect.wi.gov. When registering online, you will be sent a QR code via the email address you provided when registering. Please present this QR code with you to the test site.

    • Please whenever possible, registration in advance is strongly recommended

  • If you do not have access to a computer or internet, you may show-up at the Huron Street testing site and complete an on-line registration form.


In what situations can the COVID test site be used?

  • Individuals may use the test site in the following situations:

    • When experiencing COVID-like symptoms. Remember: DO NOT REPORT TO SCHOOL OR WORK with symptoms

    • When you are deemed a close contact of someone who tests positive and it is day six since your exposure.

The site may not be used for covid test results related to impending travel or proof of a negative test related to large group gatherings.

  • Lost Students: The purpose of school is learning. Learning happens in our classrooms Most students are already in the habit of being in class. Our students know that they must have the student planner signed by a teacher as their hall pass permission. For a few who are causing distraction by leaving without permission, we will be giving one warning, contacting families if the problem persists and issuing citations for loitering. To prevent students leaving class, our school resource officer, Mike Laabs will be patrolling hallways on an increased frequency. Thank you for helping us focus on learning by inviting students to stay in class during learning time.
  • Lost and Found: We have a lost and found table in the office that is over flowing. We are asking students to come look for anything they may have lost. We will be donating all of the items on Friday November 19th.
  • Cell Phones- If students bring their cell phones to school, our policy is that cell phones need to be kept in student's locker for the duration of the day. If students do not follow this policy they will asked to put their cell phone in their locker or the cell phone will be brought to the office. We are asking loved ones to remind students of this policy.
