We Are... Wildcats!

October 4th, 2020

Dear Families,

It has been great partnering with all of you during this first month of the year. The Wildcats have settled into their classroom routines, and although I cannot see their smiles, their eyes say it all- they are happy to be in school! Thank you for your continued support as parents. As always, if you ever have a question or concern, please feel free to send me an email. We are in this together, because we are WILDCATS.

Executive Order- Face Mask

On Friday, September 25, 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed Executive Order

2020-185, requiring that all students in kindergarten and up wear facial coverings while in classrooms for the 2020-2021 school year. This order officially goes into effect on Monday, October 5, 2020. While our students in grade K-5 already have been wearing masks indoors based on our GSD plan, this will create a small change in our day-to-day operations. Prior to this new Executive Order, our procedure was that all students in K-5 would wear their masks while in their cohorted classroom unless instructed by their teacher to remove it for instructional activities such as a phonics lesson or guided reading. Going forward our students will have to keep their mask on while they are in school with the exception of while they are eating and at recess when socially distanced. We feel this will be an easy transition for our students since they have already developed a level of comfort in wearing their mask for the majority of the day. As always, we will continue to keep our families informed about any changes involving our school processes.

Partner Reading Across Rooms

In third grade, Mrs. Hardy and Mrs. Laidler had their students partner read with peers in the opposite class through Zoom. This was a fun way for the students to see their friends from the other room but also get some important reading practice at the same time!

Our PTO is looking for some Weiss families that would love to help and support our school this year. If you have any interest in helping with our PTO (or even just attending the meetings via Zoom), please reach out to Laura Caines(llcaines@gmail.com) or Mr. Bezeau (bezeaud@gibdist.net) for more information.

Staying Safe

As we begin the month of October, we know that the cold and flu season is coming up in addition to concerns about COVID-19. Please help us remain in person by doing the following: complete the daily health screener on your child, keep your child home if they have symptoms, and keep your child home if they are awaiting test results for COVID-19. We know that not everything is COVID-19 and we are relying on our students to limit their potential exposure (parties, celebrations, events) as much as possible while we limit their exposure in school. Below is a letter sent by Mrs. Conway to all our GSD families with information about our COVID procedures, community transparency, and how to help support our district during this time.

Drawing Class

Please check out the attached flyer with information about virtual drawing classes that are being offered to our GSD families.
Big picture

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher conferences are right around the corner. These will primarily be held on October 15th and 16th. These conferences are a great time for your child's teacher and you to discuss your child's progress and how the current school year is going. You will be receiving an invite from your child's teacher soon if you haven't already.

Half Day Schedule (October 15th and 16th)

The 15th and 16th of October will be half days due to Parent-Teacher conferences. Our dismissal times will still be staggered like normal. If someone else is coming to pick up your child during the half-day, make sure they have a paper in the window with your child's name. Additionally, share how the pick-up routines normally work so we can keep this time as smooth as possible :

A-F: Will be dismissed at 11:35

G-L: Will be dismissed at 11:45

M-R: Will be dismissed at 11:55

S-Z: Will be dismissed at 12:02

Technology Forms

Please use the link below to review our GSD technology forms and mark that you agree to those terms for your child. Currently, about 70% of our Wildcat families have completed this form. Our goal is to get to 100%.
