What Causes Northern Lights?
Northern lights are caused by electrically charged particles which are released from the sun and sent into the earth's atmosphere.
The electrically charged particles enter the earth's magnetic field. That causes us to see the beautiful northern lights.How do Charged Particles From the Sun Get to the Earth?
The opening in the sun's atmosphere allows the electrons and protons to flow out and enter the earth's magnetic field. We see the northern lights because there are tons of charged particles colliding with the earth's atmosphere to create the beautiful view.
Myths And Legends About Northern Lights
Sami legends believed that the northern lights were spirits. But in a scary way they thought if you disrespect the northern lights they thought the spirits would come down to earth and beat them up.

How Do We See Northern Lights?
We see it because when the protons and electrically charged particles come together they form a colored light which usually appears in the colors green, blue, purple,and turquoise.
