Developing Artistic Creativity at SMS
Selkirk’s art students are starting off the year with some amazing works of art! By tapping into students' natural creativity and curiosity, Mrs. Foster is helping them discover their artistic talents. The seventh grade class recently sculpted piggy banks where the pigs aren’t regular pigs, but pigs with a story on how they became more than an average pig. Pictured we have a very cool pig who loves his video games thanks to Lunden . We also have a mini mouse who thought it would be fun to try to be a pig for a day and ended up getting stuck that way thanks to Megan C.
In another project Cameron F took his animal box to a whole new level when he made a snail box that turned into one of the largest projects so far. As far as 8th graders go, we have a bowl by Annabelle W that turned into a beautiful flower and a mug by Bella D that is dripping with it’s original style. These designs are thought up by the students after getting the steps of making the functional part of the sculpture. Students look into their imagination, do a little research to make their functional, and then create a beautiful work of art. Way to go Wolves!

Character Strong!
During Advisory, our students identified ways that people can work on developing their good character. Students will be introduced to eight essential components of good character: patience, kindness, humility, respect, selflessness, forgiveness, honesty and commitment. Students were challenged to give a genuine compliment to five people throughout the day.
Next week students will focus on kindness and clarify why they'd like to see more kindness in our school.
