A Peek Inside the Week - Sept. 16th, 2022
A Note From Your Principals
Did you know World Gratitude Day is celebrated annually on September 21st?? This day aims to remind us of the importance of expressing gestures of thanks and appreciation.
Celebrating this day, not only on the 21st but throughout the year, aligns perfectly to the feelings identified in Eli Terry’s “Charter”; the document outlining how we want to feel when spending time together in our school. We agreed that we’d like to feel: supported, valued, respected, connected, and effective.
One way we can ensure we have these feelings is by sharing our gratitude for all the amazing things our community members do for one another! Research shows that practicing gratitude actually invites joy into our own lives!
As a result, we are beginning an Eli Terry Community “Shout Out” initiative. We encourage every member of our school (staff and parents/families) to practice gratitude by sharing their appreciation(s) for any member of our ET community. It may be another colleague, parent/family member, district employee, or a student, etc.) who has done something that deserves a "shout out". “Shout outs” can be submitted quickly and easily using the Google Form linked below and "shout outs" will be celebrated during staff meetings/PTO meetings, over morning announcements, on our monitor displays, or in "shout out" cards throughout the school year.
Help us spread gratitude and find joy!

Intention Flag Project
In an effort to teach us all to be more compassionate and remember our true nature of helping and giving to others, Mr. Huck is helping return to our humanity and wish great intention for others!
This year our school community will participate in an intention flag project. This project is a lesson in compassion that flows through us; not only through our body (by drawing), our mind (through thinking about our intention), but also through our spirit and the visual representation of the flags when they are flying.
In collaboration with Mrs. Marshall, our Art Teacher, every student will draw their intention (or wish) for another individual on a flag that is representative of earth, water, fire, air and space. These flags will be flown outside our school building, in the elements, so that our wish for humanity can be blown to the four corners of the earth.
Some of the intentions that you may see on these flags might be world wide such as the intention for world peace. Some may come a little closer to home such as a wish for a kitten for my sister or an X box for dad.
Whatever the intention, we hope to make compassion an everyday occurrence for ourselves, for our children, and for our humanity. We thank you for being a part of our project!
