Welcome Back! We had a great first day back from fall break. Our students were amazing! Here are two important updates below. Have a great day.
- Family and Caregiver Survey has been released. We want to hear from you!
Families and Caregivers of Warren Township, students and teachers have completed the first quarter of school for the 2020-2021 school year. We would now like to look back and determine what went well, as well as look ahead to the rest of the school year and identify areas of growth. As a valued partner, we would like your input on how MSD Warren is doing with health and safety measures, communication, and family needs as we continue to navigate these unprecedented times. Please take a few minutes to complete this survey via the link below. The survey window is open from October 19th through November 2nd.

Warren Township has set an Exclusion from school date starting on Monday, September 21st. On or after September 21st, your child may not return to school or virtual learning, until documented proof of immunizations has been provided or an appointment has been scheduled. If you have an appointment scheduled, please notify the Nurse, with the date, if you have not already done so. Please call Nurse Jessica with any questions at 317-532-3055. Records may be faxed to 317-532-3089 or emailed to jroberts@warren.k12.in.us.
Car Rider Information
We have made a slight change to the car rider procedure for this year. For both Pick up and Drop off, the car rider line will utilize two lanes to reduce congestion. See map below for details.
***Hi, this message is from Mr. Coleman, the proud principal of Brookview Elementary. I want to ensure that you have access to information about your child's school. Teaching and Learning
Teaching and Learning Emphasis
At Brookview Elementary, we want our students to be strong readers! There are 5 major components to reading. I will be sharing information on each of the 5 components of reading over the next several weeks. Let's start with fluency.
What Is Fluency?
Fluency is the ability to read "like you speak." Hudson, Lane, and Pullen define fluency this way: "Reading fluency is made up of at least three key elements: accurate reading of connected text at a conversational rate with appropriate prosody or expression." Non-fluent readers suffer in at least one of these aspects of reading: they make many mistakes, they read slowly, or they don't read with appropriate expression and phrasing.
Many researchers have found that fluency is highly correlated with reading comprehension—that is, when a student reads fluently, that student is likely to comprehend what he or she is reading.
So how do we teach it?
Teacher Modeling
Examples of teacher modeling include:
- Teacher-assisted reading
- Peer-assisted reading
- Audio-assisted reading
Key point: Teacher modeling involves more than just listening to someone else read. Students must be actively involved 100 percent of the time and in a multi-sensory way.
Parents, you play a major role here as well. Allowing your children consistent opportunities to read to you is key. Every night, have your children read to you. This helps your child become a strong reader!
WHO ARE WE?
At Brookview Elementary school, we strive to develop and enrich students to their full potential. One of the ways that we do this is by focusing on critical thinking, content knowledge, collaboration, citizenship, creativity, and resilience.

The Journey of a Graduate skills are a set of 6 skills and dispositions that have been identified by our community needed for success in and out of school.
