The inventor of the amazing Water Frame Was Sir Richard Arkwright, (born Dec. 23, 1732, Preston, Lancashire, Eng.—died Aug. 3, 1792, Cromford, Derbyshire)

Why was it needed?

This amazing Water Frame was invented so that weavers could have a stronger cotton yarn for warping instead of wefting.

This machine was very important and may impact life today. The machine became important when the general demand for the power loom created a demand for strong warp yarns.

Where was it Made?

The Water Frame was made in Arkwright's home of Preston.

How Did It Work?

Sets of rollers turning at different speeds drew cotton from the carding machine, which straightened out the fibers. Spindles then twisted the cotton into thread. The water frame made hard, firm, and rather coarse thread.

What is the purpose?

It created a stronger cotton yarn for wefting instead of weaving
