EDMS Community Newsletter

October 11th, 2021

Happy Tuesday y'all! We hope you all had a nice weekend and enjoyed an extra day to rest (or for your students to rest if you still had to work). We had a great professional development time with staff on Friday afternoon and Monday, building our capacities to better serve and support our students. Thank you to all of you who visited Cinco de Mayo for our Dine and Donate on Friday, we had a great turnout. Also thank you to all the students and families who supported our Fall Fundraiser. The monies we raised will be going directly back to the site through our PFC. Please check out all the info below and we hope you all have a great week.

Below you will see some slides that will be shared with students throughout this week as reminders of what our school-wide expectations are for student behavior. Please check in with your student and ask them, "what are you getting good at today (this week)" related to the Toro Way and student behavior. Students will be reflecting on how their 1st quarter went and what they need to do to make 2nd quarter even better.

Please be sure to always check our school website here to keep up to date. Also, make sure that we have your current contact information to help you stay in the loop.

*If you know of someone who would like to receive this newsletter, have them visit our school website here and fill in their email address to subscribe to it.

A new COVID testing schedule begAN on Monday, September 13th. This schedule will allow the testing company to staff more nurses at fewer sites, minimize the disruptions of daily school activities on fewer sites, and address the new requirements of testing for high school athletes and others. As we find lines getting long, we will communicate with the testing company that will provide additional nurses. The MDUSD website will be updated on Friday of each week with the testing schedule for the following week.

The new protocols are as follows:

- testing is ONLY for MDUSD students/staff and athletes will have priority

- preregistration online is no longer required

- for the safety of those on our school campuses, staff/children with notable active symptoms (congestion, fever, vomiting) will be turned away and should be seen by your health provider or at one of the locations noted on the MDUSD website under "Other Testing Locations"

To accommodate parents, other family members, and the community, our partners at PMH Labs will roll out a Saturday walk and drive-up testing center on the Concord High School campus from 8 am to 2 pm beginning Saturday, September 18th. It will be fully staffed with nurses and parking attendants to speed up the process for those needing testing, including those who may be symptomatic with active symptoms.

Please join us for our weekly chat with Mr. Clausen at 8:30 on Friday morning. This week we will be having some special guests as our VP Ms. O'Malley and our Counselor, Ms. Finch will be joining us! Bring your questions, ideas, and suggestions and something warm to drink. We will be meeting virtually for the first semester in the hopes that we can meet in person starting in the new year. Please click here to join us this week!

FROM OUR COUNSELORS: Ms. Finch and Ms. Grant

This week we are reminding students that being safe includes keeping our hands and feet to ourselves even when hanging out with friends. We have seen many innocent games of roughhousing between friends escalate and the best way to avoid these conflicts is to not engage in any type of rough play on campus. Being respectful includes using our voice to build others up and to be kind. Keeping cell phones turned off and out of sight during school. Including during lunch, is being responsible. Students are allowed to use their phones before and after school. We appreciate your help with guiding our Toros in being safe, respectful and responsible.
