Thirteen Florence 1 Graduating Seniors Receive Associate Degrees from Florence-Darlington Technical College
Thirteen Wilson High School seniors make up the largest group of early college students ever in Florence 1 Schools. The students are members of the fourth graduating class of the Early College program. These seniors received an Associate of Arts degree from Florence-Darlington Technical College this week.

The Early College program was established in the summer of 2014, and it offers students the opportunity to take college classes leading to an Associate of Arts degree. In the high schools, a certified college instructor teaches the students in the program. High school students of the program will earn at least three hours of college credit for each class once they have successfully earned a C or higher. The Early College program offers 71 college hours.
Pre-School Program Offered this Fall at RN Beck Learning Center
Florence 1 Schools has created space for 75 children to attend the pre-school program. If more than 75 applications are received before the deadline of June 7, 2019, a lottery will be held. Siblings will be considered together in the event of a lottery. Final acceptance will be determined by June 14.

Carver to Host STEAM Camp
Florence 1 Schools Offers Summer Camp in Conjunction with USC
Florence 1 Schools is pleased to announce that it will work with the University of South Carolina Department of Communication Disorders to offer a speech-language therapy camp July 8-August 1 at North Vista Elementary.
Any student with speech /language therapy on their IEP ((Individualized Educational Plan) is welcomed to attend. A parent must provide transportation to and from the therapy sessions each week and remain at North Vista during the therapy time.
Sessions will be one hour long and will be offered between 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday. Interested parents should contact the Speech Language Therapist at their child's school or Dr. Karen Long, Speech Therapy Coordinator at 843-413-4696 or klong@fsd1.org.

The South Florence High School Baccalaureate Program will be held on Sunday, May 19th at 6:00 p.m. in the South Florence High School Auditorium. Speaker for the program is Felix Jordan, Pastor of the New Ebenezer AME Church in Mullins.
The West Florence High School Baccalaureate will be held on Sunday, June 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Billy Leach, Youth Pastor at Grace Baptist Church of Florence is the speaker.
The Wilson High School Baccalaureate Program will be held on Sunday May 19th at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium. Speaker is Elder Jeremy Plowden of the Bible Way Temple of Faith.
The public is invited to attend.
High Achieving Students to Be Honored on Sunday
For the fourth year, the Florence Branch of the NAACP will recognize the top five African American seniors in each of the three high schools at a special program. The program will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 3:30 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 124 W. Darlington Street.
Students who will be recognized at the Highway to Higher Education Program include: South Florence’s Alexis Carroway, Darrin Davis, Akira Johnson, Taylor Jones and Micheal Mason, Jr.;
West Florence’s Ebony Hunter, Deasia Rush, Alexis Dale, Jarrod Woodland, and Jordyn Parnell; Wilson’s Jaila Davis, Kala Blu Jenkins, Alexis Reid, Emily SantiAnna, and Kianna Wolfe.
The program is sponsored by community organizations, local churches along with Florence businesses McDonald’s and Pepsi.
