1). Win the Moment
Q: Is it possible to win every moment?
A: That depends upon your definition of winning.
- winning the moment
- meaningful moments
- measurable moments
- staying in the moment ("must be present to win" is very true)
No single emotion or word can describe every moment. Our moments vary is size and meaning. Sometimes this moment is a big moment, other times it's a small moment. We have average moments, we have fun moments, we have not-so-fun moments, moments of anxiety, moments of pleasure, moments where we lose it, and moments where we gain it. We have moments of frustration and moments of fulfillment, moments of victory and moments of defeat. And in all those moments, we must do the same thing to each one of them- win them!
"How wonderful is it that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."
~Anne Frank
How does one "be in the moment?" It's a mental effort, a mind exercise. Psychologist William James noted, "The greatest discovery of my generation is that you can alter your life by altering the way you think." He was certainly onto something! Whether you think you can or think you can't, either way, you are right.
It's also been noted that all true change begins to happen with an individual thought. Thought = mindset (attitude) = emotion = belief = a habit. Conquering habits will stem from what's in your brain right now. Choose to win this moment by turning your thought to a constructive, positive one. We have a choice right this second to activate our faith toward the idea we can, or to allow those negative bullying thoughts hold us back.
Drop this in your think tank: "I never lose. Either I win or I learn." Therefore, you win each moment by learning from each moment. Winning the happy moments are easy, but we win the other moments by learning from them. This way, you never lose. The result will be micro-habits that spark incredible change, in and around you.
We live victoriously by seeing every moment as a victory.

1). Congrats on your reaching your recent health goals! Can you tell us a little about where you started and where you are now?
I started my wellness journey last May. I had been gaining weight slowly since my son was born and wanted to get back to an active healthy lifestyle. I began by seeing a nutritionist and taking the Weight Watchers classes that were offered at Jackson Healthcare. Then I did the Couch to 5K and slowly started incorporating fitness back into my life. I have lost almost 40 pounds and feel healthy again!
2). What does your current eating and exercise routine consist of? Do you have a favorite style that is working for you?
I try to incorporate a lean protein, good carbohydrates, fats, and a lot of vegetables in each meal. I enjoy weightlifting and power walking. I find that when I need extra motivation, the classes at Jackson Healthcare are great. It is easy to commit to an hour or half-hour class. I get variety with the classes, so exercise is never boring. Also, the instructors are great. They are always encouraging and uplifting.
3). How important has it been to have other associates encourage you along your path?
I find it helpful for others to encourage me. I felt so great this week when someone told me that I look really fit :).
4). What would you say to encourage someone who is just starting out or restarting their health journey?
Slow and steady wins the race. Set small, achievable goals for yourself and surround yourself with positive people. I had to remind myself that I didn’t gain the weight overnight, so I couldn’t expect to lose it overnight.
3). Success Story with Faye and Deveda
"I actually started my weight-loss journey almost two years ago. I was at the highest weight of my life at 210 pounds, and although people told me I wore it well, I felt like crap. I was in a size 18 and those pants were getting way too tight. I noticed that if I had to park in the lower lot and walk up to the building, I was completely out of breath before I hit the top of the first set of steps. My mother was in the final stages of COPD at the time and was in her early 60's. She had been on oxygen for 13 years or so, and I didn’t want to end up like that, so I knew I had to do something. I dropped almost all refined carbs from my diet (bread, sweets, pasta, rice) and the weight started to fall off. Within a year, I had lost 35 pounds. Then I hit that dreaded plateau.
I started the Drop 10 Fit Group with hopes of pushing past that plateau. Overall, I lost 4lbs, was feeling better, and also started doing yoga with Essud on a regular basis. It has helped with my joint pain and range of motion. My two favorite quotes that kept me in the gym and especially pushing myself past my limits in yoga are:
- Exercise is like telling your body…”you’re gonna hate me for this, but you’ll thank me later”.
- Pain is merely weakness leaving the body."
~Faye Wilson
"This challenge was fun and exciting. I'm glad I had Faye as an accountability partner to help keep my motivated. Dawn and the other trainers made time for us and consulted with us during our weekly check-ins. I appreciate the partnership! Going through the Drop 10 challenge helped me gain additional healthy habits and kept me thinking about living that lifestyle. It's about progress not perfection!"
