No School for Students - 10/15/20 & 10/16/20
Materials Pick Up Day
We will have another Materials Pick Up on Monday, October 12, 2020 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. This pick up will be very similar to the Materials Pick Up we had in August. Please see the directional map below. We realize that we are reversing the direction of the usual traffic flow on Hixson’s campus, but the route identified in the map works best for this event.
The following materials will be issued on Materials Pick Up Day:
- Social Emotional Learning Materials from our counselors (for all Hixson students)
- Books for Ms. Kraushaar’s students
- 7 Red Team treat bags
- Treats for 7 Orange students
- 8th grade band music
- Choir music
- Materials for students in Gifted Fine Arts (Mrs. Marks)
- Paper for Art (Mrs. Hannel)
- Materials for students in Mrs. Melloway’s classes
We hope to see you on Materials Pick Up Day!
Hixson Connections Day
Hixson Connections Day will be Tuesday, October 13, 2020. This will be a full asynchronous learning day that will focus on social emotional learning (SEL) and spreading positivity within our school community. Hixson teachers will create SEL activities for students to complete throughout the day. They will also write positive notes of encouragement and affirmation to their students, as well as recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding character throughout the school year thus far.
On October 13, students will not log in to their Zoom classes for synchronous instruction. Instead, they will be expected to access the menu of activities from their Statesman Time teacher’s Canvas page. We will also email them the link to the SEL activities. They will need to complete at least three activities of their choice from the menu. Students are encouraged to take a picture of themselves engaging in one of the activities and email it to their Statesman Time teacher. We will post some of the photos on our social media to help us demonstrate to our community how we engage in social emotional learning.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Our virtual parent/teacher conferences will take place October 13 - 15. We are asking parents to please abide by the time limits set for conferences. Since conferences are virtual, teachers will likely have other parents in the waiting room who are waiting for their turn to talk to them. Teachers will end conferences on time so that they don't keep other parents waiting. Conferences will end promptly at 8:00 pm on October 13 and 14, and promptly at 4:00 pm on October 15. Thank you so much for understanding.
To schedule a meeting with your child’s teachers, please visit https://ptcfast.com/schools/Hixson_Middle_School_1.
Please note: math, PE, and elective teachers will meet separately from the team conference. If you would like to meet with these teachers, you will need to schedule additional conferences.
You will receive a link to a Zoom meeting in your confirmation email. You will use this link to attend your conference. We will send reminders and further information regarding Zoom links closer to conference days.
