Robert Hunter Report

Jan. 30, 2022
Dear Robert Hunter families,
It was another great week here at RH. Students did a great job completing kindness challenges throughout the week. 2nd Grade students in Mrs. Carlucci and Ms. Migliore’s classes led our virtual assembly this past week and helped to teach our school more about the whole school book The Rabbit Listens. This book shows how listening to someone is an act of kindness. Buddy classes will meet in February to talk more about the ideas in this book.
Thank you for keeping your children home when they start to develop any kind of illness. We are definitely seeing improvements in the cases in the area and we hope this means we are through the most difficult times. As we are now in “Orange,” we no longer need to have as many restrictions in place. All students will return to eating lunch in our cafeteria starting this upcoming week.
We would like to introduce some new staff members at Robert Hunter. Please read more about the newest members of our staff and faculty below.
We are pleased to announce Ms. Mercedes Mariano as our part-time bilingual secretary at Robert Hunter! Families may reach Ms. Mariano at email@example.com for communication in Spanish. Ms. Mariano will be available in the office daily from 9:00-11:00.
Enjoy the weekend. Stay safe, and we hope you all enjoy some fun in the snow!

Security Drill Notification
Our school will continue to have one security drill and one fire drill each month. Recent legislation has passed regarding information that must be shared with parents about school security drills. After each security drill that takes place in our school, families will receive written notification following completion of a school security drill, provided that same school day. This is why you received notification of our school security drill that was held this past Friday.
When students are absent for over 10 days of school, attendance letters are sent home, as per district procedures. These letters serve as notification for families of your child’s attendance. Please note that 3 incidents of being tardy or out early count toward one absence. We do understand that many absences this year may be due to illnesses/COVID. We are in communication with Mrs. Cunniff and are aware of the circumstances surrounding these absences. You will receive a call from administration if a concern exists regarding your child’s attendance.
Global School Play Day
We are excited to be participating in Global School Play Day at Robert Hunter on Feb. 2nd! Global School Play Day is a day dedicated to reminding students of the importance of unstructured play. Play for students this age is fundamental, as it provides social learning, fosters creativity, and allows kids to just be kids.
We will devote at least one hour of our school day to unstructured play.
Please select one item/toy for your child to bring to school. Toys should not require batteries, electricity, or have a screen.
Please discuss with your child that they are responsible for their toys being transported to school, and to be brought home with them at the end of the day
Toy ideas for your child to bring to the classroom:
Cars, trucks, racetracks
Empty Cardboard boxes
We are looking forward to a great day of exploration and imagination!!
To find more out about why we choose to participate in GSPD and the benefits of play please view Peter Gray’s TEDx video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg-GEzM7iTk
