Different Ways to Acquire Resources
Fracking, Drilling, and Mining
Surface vs Sub-Surface
Open-Pit Mining is when you make a big hole in the ground then remove the rocks and minerals from that hole. The effects on the environment include: Land Disturbance, Waste Rock Disposal, Tailings, Acid Drainage, Reclamation, and Dust
Strip Mining is the process in which you drill a hole straight down then drill in any direction and can be used to find mostly precious rocks and minerals could cause sinkholes
Mountaintop Removal Mining
Mountaintop Removal is the process in which you start to tear away the top of the mountain to provide you precious materials inside the mountain could be very harmful to the environment and animals
Fracking- The process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, boreholes, etc., so as to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas.
The environmental effects are that it could infect our water when it is done on land and severely cut off our water supply or on the offshore could affect many marine animals and habitats.
