The Freedom Phenom
October 2022
GREETINGS PARENTS,
March Madness is here! Whether you're a basketball fan or someone who is just trying to stay abreast of all the calendar events, I can relate to you. Please remember that the 3rd quarter grading period ends March 17, and remind, coerce, or force your Patriot to finish strong. Contact his/her teachers if you have any questions.
Please let me know how I can further serve you. Our partnership and collaboration will only prove to make us better and stronger.
Thank you and your (our) amazing kids for the encouragement and well wishes these past few weeks!
I am blessed!
ONE Freedom!

SCOLIOSIS SCREENING
Dear Parent or Guardian of 6th and 8th grade students,
The Cherokee County Health Department will conduct a scoliosis screening program at Freedom Middle School on March 20th & 21st. The scoliosis program is designed to identify students for possible signs of an abnormal curvature of the spine, or scoliosis. It is known that two to three percent of students may have scoliosis.
The scoliosis screening procedure is simple, requiring a nurse screener to look at the student’s back while standing and bending forward. If your student has a suspected curvature, you will be notified immediately with a recommendation to visit your family doctor for further evaluation. Boys and girls are screened separately. Girls must wear a bra, sports bra or a bathing suit under their clothes on the day of the screening in order to participate.
Scoliosis screenings are required by the Department of Public Health (DPH) for all students except those who elect to “opt out” of participation. Parents may elect to opt their students out of the screening process by completing and signing the “opt out” section located at the bottom of the attached 4400 form.
We must receive an opt out form no later than Friday March 17th if you do not wish for your child to be screened.
Please feel free to reach out to your school nurse with any questions.

The students won each round taking home the first place trophy. Before the competition, the team got to tour Andersonville Civil War Prison and President Jimmy Carter’s boyhood home. The students on this team worked so hard and supported each other to victory! Congratulations to Andrew Miller, Andy Garcia, Felicia Ciulla, Grant Olds, Haylie Marsh, Joel Koffie, Lauren Hardy, Logan Johnson, Parker Duncan, Alex Puckett, and Callie Beard. Also a big shout out to the Ms. Cook, Ms. Trull, and Ms. Knight for sponsoring the team!
