National School Counseling Week!
This week, we celebrated our school counselor, Dr. Lori Mann. She aims to guide, advise, recommend, consult, and assist with the nearly limitless variety of concerns that students, parents, teachers, administrators, and the school community may have.
She has a tremendous impact helping students achieve school success. Dr. Mann offers individual counseling to help students resolve personal or interpersonal problems. She offers small groups to help students enhance listening and social skills, learn to empathize with others, and find social support through healthy peer relationships.
This is just a small list of things our school counselor does to support our Platte County School’s vision, mission and values.
She is a vital member of our education team and we celebrate her today and every day!
Thank you Dr. Mann!
All the best,
Johna-Kaye Sutton

Character Warms the Heart Week: February 14-18
February 14-18 is our Pirates ROCK "Character Warms the Heart" week, when we warm up with our good character and great leadership with fun spirit week activities and collect items for our Treasure Chest resource center to help PCR-3 families in need. We're collecting shampoo & conditioner, body wash, deodorant, and cereal this year. Participate in our spirit days and send in any donations to our schools! Reminder: Friday, February 18 there is no school for our District In-service Day, a great day to send a nice note to a friend or staff member. See flier for details on our spirit days and come cheer on our Pirates at the Home Basketball games on February 15!
Counselor's Corner
Career Awareness Project:
This year we would like to try something new to allow for more community involvement and to bring more career awareness to our students. The goal of the project is to help students become aware of the variety of jobs in our community. At the elementary level students are introduced to jobs for career awareness, at the middle school there's a continuation of career awareness and career exploration and at the high school level it's career exploration and planning. If you would be willing to create a 3-4 minute video, on your phone or tablet, and talk about what a person in your job does, we'd love to highlight the work you do! All work has value and we are an interdependent society, so really hoping for a wide diversity of jobs to be shared. We would ask that all videos are emailed to Tina Kaiser at kaisert@platteco.k12.mo.us sometime during the month of February. Please consider sharing your job with our students!
FEBRUARY/MARCH
During the months of February and March students are learning about careers, their likes and dislikes, identifying workers in the school and family related to the six career paths, and understanding that all work is important. Inquire with your child(ren) what they have learned and what jobs they find interesting.
