Great First Week of School!
WOW!
Getting Organized
It was a challenge to set up a new learning space in the last weeks of Summer, but we did it! I am so pleased with the overall layout of our new learning space--there are some tweaks that I will work on in the upcoming days. It has been a real bonus to have our own Smartboard. We use it daily! Nick is eager to use the technology in the classroom--he has demonstrated how to maximize a video and used our microphone to search Google with his voice! Go NICK!
Scott is the master of Xtramath.org. He has already set a new record for reward smiley faces- 107!!! WOW This is going to be an amazing and productive year!
Let's Explore Our World!
Off and running--or flying!
Two of our main goals this year are, to learn to access the information we need and to make sense of what we read. We are going to anchor all of our learning to the idea of exploring our world. We have a cool map of the world on our wall and have begun our journey. We are reading both fiction and nonfiction text and dropping a "pin" on our map that shows "where in the world" we are reading about. So far we are reading The One and Only Ivan, (recommended by Nick and his family-thanks!), nonfiction books about gorillas, Jane Goodall and spiders and a story about journaling a trip, Ivy's Journal. It is wonderful to see the pins growing in number already. We will crisscross the globe this year--what a trip!!!!
