Month in Review - November

November was another great month for Indian Creek Explorers and their families!

As part of our special Veterans Day program, our students learned about the military men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. We honored our veterans by proudly displaying their names in our main hallway and thanked them during our very special silent dismissal.

Students, parents, and staff had a great time playing, eating, and socializing at our Incrediplex fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our school.

Finally, a huge shout-out to our very own Team Wild for their participation in the First Lego League tournament in mid-November. Their robotics skills were put to the test and they rose to the challenge! Thank you to Mr. Patten and all of the parents for supporting these young engineers.

New Staff Spotlight

Heather Bell - 6th Grade

My name is Heather Bell, and I am very excited to be here at Indian Creek to start my twelfth year of teaching! Previously, I taught 1st grade for eight years in Florida and 6th grade in California for the last three years. I grew up on the beach in Florida, and I love anything having to do with the water. In my free time, I like to be outside or spending time with my family and friends.

Kelley Feldman - 6th Grade

Hi, my name is Kelley Feldman and this is my first year teaching at Indian Creek! I have been teaching for over 19 years and have taught every grade 1-6. I love the older grades! I feel so fortunate to join a great school with amazing kids. I attended Ball State University. My favorite book is Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. I have two daughters, Meredith age 11 and Kiernan age 2. My 98-year-old grandma now lives with us so that keeps us quite busy!

Susan Barkowski - Resource

My name is Susan Barkowski. I am so excited to be at Indian Creek this year as a resource teacher for grades 1-4! This is my twentieth year of teaching. Prior to teaching at IC, I taught for many years at Forest Glen and also at Sunnyside Elementary. In my free time I enjoy traveling and spending time with my husband and 11 year old daughter.

If you have changes to your student's dismissal procedures, they must be called into the office prior to 1:30. This will ensure an ample amount of time for the communication to be properly delivered. Also don’t forget that all parent visits with the classroom teacher must be scheduled in advance to avoid interrupting the learning environment. If you would like to schedule a parent teacher conference please contact your classroom teacher directly or call the main office at 964-4400. Thank you!

Parent Information and Resource Center

Did you know that there is a Parent Information and Resource Center in our area? The Indiana Partnerships Center located at 911 E. 86th Street, Suite 110 works to empower parents about their rights and responsibilities pertaining to their children’s education in the following ways:

  • Providing parent-focused workshops that are scheduled by schools, community groups, or parent groups.
  • Providing education-related information and resource materials, including information about school choice, attendance, tips for parents and teachers talking together, and how to have a family friendly school.
  • Helping schools develop parent engagement strategies that provide opportunities for parents to become decision-makers in their children's school, resources for school improvement, and mentors to others.

Contact them at 317-205-2595 or on the web at www.fscp.org for more information on how you can become involved!

There are many great things happening at Indian Creek, both in and out of the classroom. Your PFO raises funds to help teachers enrich classroom curriculums, support exciting clubs and activities, cultivate school pride, and most importantly strengthen the bond of Indian Creek families. Please join us on Tuesday, December 8th, at 6:30 in the Media Center to hear more about the exciting things happening around our school.

Indian Creek Annual Cookie Exchange

ICE’s Hospitality Committee needs your help!

It’s time to treat the wonderful staff of ICE to a buffet of scrumptious holiday treats!

Please bake your special Christmas treats like cookies, bars, brownies, candies, fudges, etc., for our staff to pack up and share with their families.

Click here to sign up for cookie donations. Treats should be dropped off in the teacher’s lounge by 12:00 pm on Thursday, Dec. 17th.

Indian Creek raised $405 this past quarter through parents shopping at Kroger and using their Kroger Plus Card. In order to participate, you must create an account online to sync your Kroger Plus Card to Indian Creek Elementary. Once the account is created, Indian Creek earns money every time you shop at Kroger!

Box Tops

Please continue to cut and save Box Tops. Each one earns 10 cents and can be used as cash to purchase items for our school. Last year we earned over $2000. They add up quickly! Collection sheets can be found here.

Student of the Week Program

Indian Creek would like to thank BW3's on Pendleton Pike for partnering with us to honor our Students of the Week. Each student of the week earns a certificate for a free BW3's kid's meal. You can be a champion too by becoming a BW3's Teammate!

Class of the Week program

We're honored to partner with Puccini's Smiling Teeth to recognize and reward our Classes of the Week with free pizza! Work like a champion, eat like a champion!

Honor an Educator

Looking for a way to let those special school employees know how much you appreciate them? The Lawrence Township School Foundation has the answer. The Honor An Educator program is a great way to personally thank the teachers, administrators, coaches, bus drivers and staff members who encourage, influence, and inspire your students to be the best they can be. When you make a gift to the Honor An Educator Fund, the Foundation sends the recipient a custom designed card with your special sentiment and notifies his/her supervisor of the recognition. All proceeds benefit Foundation programs in Lawrence Township Schools that empower children to tap into their unlimited potential. Please submit your Honor An Educator forms by December 11, so that the honored educators receive their cards before Winter Break. For more information, visit the Foundation’s website at www.msdltf.org.
