As you are aware, the HSD Bond projects across the district included major upgrades and installation of security features. One of those features is our locked doors and intercom system to enter the building. Please be aware that you must use the buzzer and intercom system to enter the school. Staff members coming and going from the building are instructed not to let anyone in the building. All visitors, including parents and guardians must use the intercom system to identify yourself, let us know why you are here and then you will be buzzed into the building. Our main office staff are in charge of permitting people to enter the building. This is for the safety of everyone in our school. We appreciate your understanding with this in order to provide optimal security for our students, staff and community.
Anyone who is picking up a student must be on your child's approved pick up list (custodial parents, guardians and emergency contacts) and may be asked to present ID to ensure they are authorized. If you need to update your child's information, please go into your ParentVue account to complete the online verification. Click here for instructions for this process.
Please also note that if you need to drop something off for your student or you are picking them up early, you may not access students at their recess time. Please do not park next to the curb and call out to your child on the playground to come over to you. You must come to the main entrance, be buzzed into the building and office staff will assist you with what you need. Again, this protocol is in place for security purposes.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students, staff and community safe! We appreciate your understanding and commitment to safety.
Warmest regards,
Gina McLain
Principal

Helpful Parenting Tips for Transitioning to Summer
Transitions can be challenging for some people. Transitioning to summer break and then back to school in the fall can be especially challenging for kids with the regular structures and routines of the school year being interrupted.
You can set your summer up to be more productive and peaceful by thinking ahead about how you might provide rewards and consequences for different behaviors. When kids understand how you will respond to their actions, they feel a sense of fairness and predictability. It lets them know how you act as a family unit, making summer as rewarding as possible for everyone in the family.
Rewards and consequences are some of the most powerful tools at a parent’s disposal. When used effectively, they discourage unwanted behavior and promote healthy replacement behaviors. However, many parents become frustrated when their attempts at using rewards and consequences are ineffective. Common pitfalls, such as the inconsistent use of consequences, can completely undermine their value.
Using the Planning Rewards and Consequences* worksheet, will help parents create a plan for how and when they will use rewards and consequences. Parents begin by identifying a specific “unwanted behavior” and several consequences to discourage this behavior. Next, they will identify several “replacement behaviors” and rewards to encourage these new alternatives.Creating a plan and being consistent with responses can set you up for a successful summer and transition back to the new school year. Enjoy your summer!
