Modules in Open Class
Digital Ethics: Homeroom Teacher Tasks
In Your course list, find Digital Ethics for TMS, click on the Options icon, and copy the course.
Add your name to the end of the Course title and click on create course and copy content.
There should be a TMS digital ethics course listing with your name now.
Type in students’ names to search for them. Make sure you are searching within students and check the student ID number in case there are multiple students with the same name.
Assign start and end dates by selecting the “Options” icon and choosing “Edit Course Info
Enter the start date and the end date, then click on submit.
Provide students a quick overview by showing them how to get to the Digital Ethics class, and then previewing each of the units/lessons.
Submissions
You will find all submissions inside the Submissions Tab in the course menu. It will initially look like this.
Click on the assignment button that is located at the top right hand corner of the Submissions page. It will give you a drop down menu of all your available submissions.
Click on the specific assignment that you want to view submissions. It will take you to a page that looks like this:

Click on the Assignment Calendar link in the course menu. It will take you to a page that looks like this:
To add assignments, you will want to click on the “Modify Page” link and choose the “Manage” option from the dropdown menu.
When you do that, this window will appear:
On the left hand side, you will see all the content created. You will need to choose the submission/assignment that you want to give a date. Click on that from the list, and then click on the date you wish it to be due.
Once you have chosen the date, you will see this listed for the assignment.
You're ready for students to start their digital ethics modules.
Digital Ethics Overview
The information below is for teachers to refer to in order to understand what students will submit for each portion of Digital Ethics.
1. Copyright and Fair Use
· Lesson 1: Students will take notes on the videos they watch and complete a quiz.
· Lesson 2:
o Activity 1: Students will watch a video and submit a paragraph response through Open Class
o Activity 2: Students will watch a video and submit a paragraph response through Open Class
2. Online Privacy and Safety
· Lesson 1: Students will participate in a discussion about protecting their information by responding to prompts and responding to one another.
· Lesson 2: Students will complete a quiz on online scams. They will submit the screenshot by clicking on the Submissions tab and uploading it from their desktop.
· Show What You Know: Students will complete a final assignment to show what they have learned about online privacy and safety. Teachers will determine how the presentation will be submitted.
3. Digital Footprint
· Good to Post vs. Bad to Post: Students will participate in a discussion about their digital footprints.
· Google You and Reflect: Students will Google themselves and take notes on the information they find. When they finish taking notes, they will use Pages to write a reflection about their digital footprints and what they can do to improve them. They will submit it using the Submissions tab and uploading the document.
4. Evaluating Resources
Blendspace Activities: Tile 1: Students will complete a quiz and will use Tile 2 to check their understanding Tile 3: Students will participate in a blog about the comic by clicking on “Comic Strip Discussion” in Open Class. Tile 11: Students will download the document. They will evaluate one of the websites in Tiles 5-10 by completing each part of the document and will submit it using the Submissions tab in Open Class.
