Gwinnett Schools Closed on Friday, November 5

Gwinnett County Public Schools joins the rest of Atlanta and Georgia in congratulating the Atlanta Braves on winning this year’s World Series. In celebration of our hometown team, Gwinnett County Public Schools is joining surrounding school districts in closing schools on Friday, November 5. We know that many of our students, families, and staff are planning to take part in this historic celebration and we foresee that special events on Friday could have a major impact on school district operations and attendance. Again, Friday will be a student holiday in Gwinnett County Public Schools. This will not be a digital learning day and there are no plans to make up this school day. In addition, all staff-- with the exception of 12-month employees-- will not report to work on Friday.

While we know this unplanned day off will be an inconvenience for some of our families, this decision was necessary to address the anticipated high absenteeism rates among students and staff.

This is an exciting time for Atlanta. We know that none of our students (and some of our staff) were alive the last time the Atlanta Braves won a World Series. Enjoy this historic moment! Go Braves!

Fall Picture Retakes

Picture retakes for yearbook photos have been scheduled for Monday, November 8th.

Retakes are for students who were either absent on the day pictures were originally taken or unhappy with how their pictures turned out. Students new to Brookwood Elementary since September 30th will also get their pictures taken on this date.

On November 9th, GCPS will have a digital learning day for ALL students. We are grateful for the opportunity to have this day to allow teachers to plan future lessons for students.

On this Digital Learning Day:

  • Students can find all their lessons and assignments on eCLASS, but there will be no live instruction. Please view the video below for directions on how to get to your teacher's eCLASS page.
  • All students will complete their special area class digitally. More information is on the Brookwood ES homepage.

Brookwood Elementary Science Olympiad Team for 4th & 5th Grade

Applications are now open for 4th and 5th grade students who would like to join Brookwood Elementary's Science Olympiad Team. Applications must be submitted by November 12th. The team, made up of 12 fourth grade and 8 fifth grade members, will be chosen based on their science test scores and teacher recommendations. Team members will be notified by November 19th.

Science Olympiad meets weekly to research material and work with team members in preparation for Regional and State Science Olympiad Competitions. These competitions are like academic track meets and consist of a series of events related to genetics, earth science, chemistry, anatomy, physics, geology, mechanical engineering, and technology. The emphasis of most events is active, hands-on group participation and are designed to use a variety of intellectual and practical skills like quick recall of facts or concept development.

Relay for Life T-shirt Sale

Big picture

Time to kick off the Brookwood Elementary Relay for Life team by getting your 2021-2022 t-shirt. This is the first fundraiser of the year to help raise money for Relay for Life in support of the American Cancer Society.

This year’s theme is “Re’Lei for Life” with a Hawaiian feel. The shirts will come in short sleeves with 4 different colors, and all have the same design on the front. You have the option of selecting the shirt color and adding a name to the list on the back of the shirt. Please note that all names submitted will be on the back of each shirt. Custom shirts are not available. When entering names to be added on the shirts, please be sure you enter the name exactly as you want it printed on the shirts. (Ex: Names, “Jane’s Grandma” or “Uncle Bob” are all good – if you enter “Grandma” that is how it will be printed.) Short sleeved shirts cost $15, and names can be added for $5 per name.

Orders must be made through MyPaymentsPlus. Shirt orders will be accepted online only beginning Friday, October 29th through Monday, November 15th.

Please order & pay online on MyPaymentsPlus - you will select the following at the time of purchase.

  • Color: gold, bright aqua, sangria (pink) & heather purple

  • Optional: Names to be included on the back of the shirts are also available for purchase online ($5 each) – “In Honor of…” those fighting and surviving cancer & “In Memory of...” those who have lost their battle.

Thank you for supporting BES Relay!

A Message from the Clinic - Donations Needed!

The Brookwood Elementary clinic is in need of donations of pants or shorts. There have been a lot of accidents, milk spills, muddy clothes, and bloody noses. Unreturned clothes have depleted our clinic supply of extra changes.

All sizes of boys' and girls' athletic-type pants or shorts are needed. Donations can be sent in with students or dropped off at the Brookwood Elementary front office.
