Dear Parents, Grandparents and Caregivers in the OLC Community,
P & F Trivia Night
The highlight of the P & F calendar this year would have to be the highly successful Trivia Night. Congratulations to the P & F executive and the band of community members who assisted on the evening. An amazing $20,000.00 was raised. We would like to thank all the sponsors who kindly donated gifts and everyone who supported this event.
Rosary
October is the month of the rosary and as part of this devotion our Year 3 students were led by Parishioners in praying the rosary. They also participated in One Million Children Praying the Rosary. This event united our students with children around the world praying the rosary.
Interschool Carnival
We acknowledge and thank Mrs Sinclair for her excellent preparation of the students for the Interschool Carnival. Our students had an enjoyable day competing against students from other students.
Senior Swimming Carnival – Year 4-6
Parents are invited to attend the Senior Swimming Carnival which will be held on Friday, 4th November, between 10am-2pm at the Geographe Leisure Centre. Information about this event has been sent home to parents.
Cultural Incursions
This term our students in Year 2 have undertaken cultural studies at Meelup. While our Year 4 students participated in cultural activities at our School Cultural Place with Josh Whiteland, and our Year 6's created journey sticks with Josh to symbolise their journey from Primary to High School.
Staff Professional Learning
Our teaching staff are continually participating in professional learning. This term our teachers have been furthering their knowledge and skills in the Bright Paths Writing program, our School Vision for Learning, the Wellbeing Framework and the School Curriculum and Standards Authority Judging Standards.
NAPLAN 2023
In 2023 NAPLAN will be conducted in Term 1. As this is earlier in the year, the Year 2 and 4 teachers are currently preparing the students for their 2023 national literacy and numeracy assessments.
Wall Murals
This week local artist, Catie Shepherd started painting the class totems on the walls of our classrooms. As you can see Catie is off to a great start and we look forward to seeing more of her work around the school in coming weeks. We thank our Parents and Friend’s Association for supporting this initiative.
Capital Development
Progress is being made with the construction of the two classrooms and senior toilet block. As you may have seen the roof is on and the walls and internal areas are underway. We are looking at the building being completed by the end of this term. During November ground works for a new transportable classroom will commence near Mr Jones’ classroom. The transportable will be delivered in early December.
School Website
Our school website is now up and running. I invite you to view the website. It is clearer in presentation and features some wonderful promotional videos. I would like to express our appreciation to Mr Adrian Torrese for giving so generously of his time and expertise.
Our teachers have shown great resilience during challenging times, all so they can give our students the best future possible. We thank our teachers for their dedication and unwavering support of our children at Our Lady of the Cape School and wish them a happy World Teacher’s Day.

RE NEWS
Opening Term Masses
Students from PP to Year 6 have attended an opening term mass at the parish church over the last fortnight. Many thanks to Fr Ian who is always so welcoming and accommodates the children at their level. The children are to be commended on their reverence and participation in the liturgy, especially as for many, it was their first time in the church since COVID began. The older students were particularly skilled at directing and looking after their younger buddies to ensure everyone was respectful, engaged and safe. Congratulations OLC,Community Christmas Carols in the Park Volunteers:
The Dunsborough Progress Association is looking for 10 OLC students who would be willing to make a brief appearance on stage during the annual “Carols in the Park” Nativity play in Lion’s Park on December 16th at 6.00pm. Roles are minimal and non-speaking, and include Jesus, Mary, Wise Men, Angels and Shepherds. Costumes can be provided. Similarly I will require the same actors for the Childrens' Christmas Eve Mass at 6.00pm on the 24th December. If your child would be interested in being involved in either or both of these events, please email me at amie.meyer@cewa.edu.au
Weekly Community Dinner
Fancy a night off cooking weekly and a chance to get to know new friends? For a donation of your choosing, anyone from the Dunsborough community can enjoy delicious home cooked meals and meet members beyond the OLC community, many of whom would love someone to chat to. Dinners run Tuesdays from 5.00pm - 6.00pm at the centre on Gibney St, and takeaway is also available (Please BYO containers). Thanks to our Year 6 students who Make Jesus Real weekly by helping to set up for these dinners.
