Eastender Team Update

WE S.O.A.R. FROM THE EAST END!

PowerSchool Updates

As many of you have already noticed, PowerSchool for students has changed this summer. As a result, students have to go through a few extra steps to access their PowerSchool account. Today, students will take some time in science class to sit down with computers and activate their new accounts. Therefore, students will be able to access their grades by the end of this week. Be on the lookout for a very important piece of paper that contains personal account information. This will go home today.

Parents should still be able to access PowerSchool using the same information as last year. Student accounts were the only ones that changed this year.

Due to these changes, some of the teachers on the team are having difficulty getting into the system and updating grades. We are actively trying to resolve this, but please be patient as we attempt to get our grade books up and running.

DEAR

In the sixth grade, we use DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read) as a way to incorporate independent reading time into language arts class. Students completed their library orientation today and may now check out books from the school library. Please check in with your student to ensure that they are never without a book. Our grade level motto is: "Never Be Bookless!"

Supplies

We are asking that all students maintain and use one large binder for all of their classes. This 3 inch binder should be organized in the following way:

Pencil Pouch

Planner/Agenda

Homework Folder

7 Dividers (One for each class of the day, in the order of the student's schedule.)

The 6th grade has decided to use this organization system as a whole grade level to support our students as they transition into middle school. We will need your help to make sure that students aren't "stuffing" papers into the front/back of the binder as well as the homework folder. It is imperative that students check over their binders weekly to make sure that there aren't any misplaced papers or items that need to be thrown away. This is especially true for the homework folder.

We are currently gratefully accepting donations of the following items:

-3 inch binders

-Packs of 8 tabs/dividers

-Pencil pouches
