CCAC Winds up 5th Season of Kids2College and 3rd Season of Juniors Over the Local Circuit
Kids2College/Pathways to Professional Skilled Trades
2019 marked our 5th season offering Kids2College/Pathways to Professional Skilled Trades (K2C/PPST). This unique program combines a classroom curriculum with a culminating visit to a college or university and a tour of a local manufacturer. The initiative is aimed at middle school students and designed to create early awareness of post-secondary options among traditional 2-4 year institutions as well as various fields within the skilled trades.
This season, over 1,600 students studied the classroom K2C/PPST module as well as visiting 9 regional 2 - 4 year institutions and 10 local manufacturers. Over the course of 5 seasons, more than 5,000 Jackson students have participated.in this valuable progra; made possible through generous funding provided by the Bill and Vi Sigmund Foundation as well as support from the Hurst Foundation.
Juniors Over the Local Circuit
This year also marked the CCAC's 3rd year offering the Juniors Over the Local Circuit (JOLC) program. The 2018 - 2019 season saw 900 Juniors touring the campuses of Baker College, Jackson College and Spring Arbor University. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive for the JOLC initiative. 91.5% of students reported that the tour increased their understanding of what college is like and 95% stated that they would recommend the program to other students.
Summer Melt Outreach is in Progress
Summer 2019 kicked off our 4th year for collaborative summer outreach at the Martin Luther King (MLK) Center, the 3rd at YMCA, and our 2nd at the Jackson Housing Commission (JHC). CCAC advisors are once again offering the Kids2College/Pathways to Professional Skilled Trades (K2C/PPST) curriculum to area students aged 7-14. The CCAC also offers a weekly robotics session, hosted by JPS Jackson Pathways. The focus of our summer outreach is college and career exploration through interactive games and activities which end in a culminating visit to an Institution of Higher Education as well as a local manufacturer.
