We LOVE to LEARN every day!
From Ms. Linsley
We celebrated our October Students of the Month this morning. We recognized 28 star students with certificates and doughnuts. Every child was present and brought at least one family member to cheer them on. The Student of the Month Breakfast is truly my FAVORITE day of the month!
Finally, we are having an anti-bullying spirit week the last week of October. Mrs. Pape has listed the details below in her section of the newsletter. On Tuesday, October 26th, we encourage all students to wear SPACE themed shirts because that is the day of our SPACE virtual assembly. Many stores like Target and WalMart sell inexpensive t-shirts with planets, stars, astronauts and NASA logos. If all else fails, Amazon sells practically everything.
We will be celebrating Halloween on the afternoon of October 29th. Students are allowed to wear costumes and bring store-bought treats only.
I visited every classroom at Jerry Ross this afternoon and am happy to report that our students are working hard and staying focused, even on a Friday afternoon without recess.
I'm proud of our students! Have a great weekend.

Child Abuse and Sexual Abuse Prevention Education for Students
Indiana legislature has adopted legal requirements that each Indiana public school, including charter schools and accredited nonpublic schools, shall provide age-appropriate and research and evidence-based instruction on child abuse and child sexual abuse to students in kindergarten through grade 12. Note that this expands the previous requirement from providing education in grades 2-5 to grades K-12. In order to meet the new requirements, Mrs. Maynor will be providing age-appropriate, research-informed student personal/body safety sessions beginning October 25, 2021. Students will learn the Protect Yourself Rules in a classroom session of approximately 40 minutes. Parents can view the Protect Yourself Rules and related materials at the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation website fightchildabuse.org. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to contact Mrs. Maynor with questions or concerns.
From Mrs. Pape (PBIS Coach)
October is Bullying Awareness Month, in order to meet with each grade level class, I began the Anti-Bullying presentations on September 14th during Library time & wrapped up on October 8th with the final classes. I feel confident that each of our students have been educated about being a Bully Free school. The students truly had amazing input, were engaged, and asked many important questions over the last few weeks. Each student received a “Kindness Matters” bracelet last week to go along with this month’s theme.
Red Ribbon Week is October 25 – October 29th and this year’s theme is “Drug Free Looks Like Me,” helping kids stay Drug Free. Each student will be receiving a Red Ribbon to wear to show our support for this important week. Also, our Red Ribbon Week Coloring Contest will begin on October 25th and end on October 28th, with one (1) winner from each grade level being announced on Friday, October 29th. The Overall winner of our Coloring Contest will be receiving a brand new Bicycle that is being donated to our school.
Lastly, I am happy to announce the following Dress Up/Spirit Days showing our support for being a Bully & Drug Free school:
Monday, Oct. 25th Wear a Red Ribbon T-Shirt or any Red Shirt to kick off Red Ribbon Week.
Tuesday, Oct. 26th Wear a SPACE Themed or Jerry Ross Shirt to kick off our SPACE Reboot Day.
Wednesday, Oct. 27th Hat Day – Putting a Lid on Bullying & Drugs.
Thursday, Oct. 28th Pajama Day – Putting Bullying & Drugs to Bed.
Friday Oct. 29th, Halloween Dress Up Day – Say Boo to Bullying & Drugs.
Have a Safe, Healthy, & Peaceful Weekend.
