APRES Summer SWIM '22
An Extraordinary Place to Learn
Message from Principal Wilson
Greetings Dolphin Family,
I hope everyone is enjoying the summer break! We are working extremely hard to prepare for the 2022-2023 school year. I wanted to touch base with you all to give you a preview of upcoming dates and events as well as critical changes to some of the district policies for this year. I also just wanted you to know I am looking forward to seeing each of you soon. I can't wait until school starts in a few weeks.
In case you haven't heard...Randolph is officially an IB Primary Years Programme School. YES!!! We received IB PYP authorization during the 2021-2022 school year. We were the first elementary school in South Fulton to do so. What does this mean for your scholar? It means we will continue to deliver rigorous instruction with an emphasis on transdisciplinary learning (content integration) using a global minded approach. Congratulations to our students and staff for their hard work in making this happen for our school community.
This year's theme is "Focused on the W.I.N." The acronym W.I.N. stands for What's Important Now. It is my personal goal this school year to continue to remain focused on those things that guarantee the success of EVERY child EVERY day. By keeping our attention on the small things that make a BIG difference, we can be certain that our scholars and the entire school community will be successful.
I am excited to share that this year, parents will be able to walk scholars into the building each morning. As we reinstate this process, it is important to remember that mornings are not a time for parent/teacher conferences. Our staff will be busy supervising scholars and will not be able to engage in extended conversations with parents during this time. This time should be used to make sure your scholars have a great day and to wish them the best. All parents will be required to exit the building no later than 7:35 am, so that we may begin our instructional day. Students will not be allowed to enter the building before 7:10am. Breakfast ends at 7:35am and any student arriving after 7:40am is tardy. Parents arriving with scholars after 7:40am will not be allowed to escort them through the building as we will have begun our instructional day. Afternoon pick up begins at 2:20pm and ends at 2:45pm daily.
On campus visitation during the school day will be by appointment only to avoid disruptions to instruction throughout the school day. Should you wish to schedule an appointment to visit during the school day, please contact the front office at least 48 hours prior to schedule visitation time. Classroom visits are limited to a 30-minute observation window and the parent must be escorted by a member of the administrative team for the duration of the 30-minute visit. Classroom visits are not a time for parent/teacher conferences.
We are highly encouraging uniforms this school year. Our uniform top is blue, yellow, or white and the bottoms are khaki or navy blue. No logo is required for the uniform top. I will be sharing vendor information with you soon and at our Open House "Sneak Peek" in August.
As you know students thrive when there is intentional collaboration between the school, families and community. I have been in conversation with our new PTA president and am excited about the collaborative work that will come from this organization this year. You may ask how you can help. Join PTA ($20 for parents - more information to come); be sure your contact information is updated in the Infinite Campus (IC) system; and follow us on Twitter @RandolphDolphin for updates on events and the exciting things happening each day at Randolph.
All 3rd grade through 5th grade scholars will continue to receive laptops for the school year. This device will be used during the upcoming school year. Thank you in advance for ensuring scholars are taking care of the devices loaned to them by the district. If your student receives a notification to update his/her device, please follow the steps for the Windows updates being pushed out by the district. There is a replacement fee for damaged parts or broken devices. Parents will be required to sign acknowledgement of this fee when scholars devices are issued. Please support with encouraging your Dolphin to be responsible in taking care of his/her device.
The first 10 days of school are the most critical days of the school year. These are the dates the district uses to determine if enrollment has met the requirements to keep the entire staff at a school. Please make sure if you have a scholar you have not registered you do so as soon as possible. There will be no class changes prior to the first 10 days of school. All scholars must be accounted for before we consider any class changes. The form to request class changes will be made available after the 10 day window, and class changes are at the discretion of the assistant principal, Ms. Mack, and are not guaranteed. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
A. Philip Randolph will be a cashless school during the 2022-2023 school year. All payments will be made through the Online School Payment (OSP) system. Grade-level and class fees and payments will be paid a la carte by activity and each payment must be made through OSP.
As you continue to enjoy your summer vacation, please encourage your child(ren) to read, work on math facts, and engage in some academic activity each day. We look forward to seeing you on August 4th at the "Sneak Peek" and on August 8th for the first day of school. Stay safe and have fun!
