Math
We've been practicing mixed numbers and improper fractions. The kids are doing a great job! We will continue to practice and next week, begin adding and subtracting mixed numbers and improper fractions.
Please have your child practice their multiplication facts at home daily. Even if it is for 5 minutes, the hard work and practice will pay off and be so beneficial. This fall, I sent home information regarding an online math program called "First In Math". We have a subscription for every student in our class. Students are encouraged to practice at home if able. If you do not have internet access, please use flash cards or practice orally with your child. Thanks for your support!
Social Studies & Science
We have finished our unit on Force and Motion. We will now begin our Bee unit. We went to Mr. Wilfer's 8th grade science class earlier in the week to learn about bees. Next Friday, we will visit the hives! On Friday, please send in rain or snow boots with your child. They will not be able to go out to the hives if they do not have them. Our final project will be to create a public service announcement stating why bees are important, what threats are to bees, and how we can help them.
Wonders
We are continuing to work on figuring out the author's point of view. We have also been practicing using context clues to figure out the meanings of words. Remember to read with your child as much as possible and encourage them to read at home! Comic books, magazines, cookbooks - it all counts as reading!
