7th graders worked on both word processing skills and Internet searching techniques. They too continued to improve their keyboarding skills. Their typing goals are 28 WPM with 90% accuracy.
8th graders looked closely at their keyboarding progress and set goals for November. I will share the goals they set along with the strategies they choose to meet those goals in individual emails to parents. Their current goal in class in 31 wpm with 90% accuracy.
While some students have already met grade level goals, all students should practice to improve their skills. Students were instructed if they did not meet their minimum goal that they should practice at home. They may practice anytime at typingtraining.com. Students can even use their Chromebooks to practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. They all have their login information. If you have any issues logging on at home, please email me. You can monitor your child's progress at home and school by going to the reports menu after they have logged into Typing Training. Many computer students email to ask login information or for me to assign specfic assignments on typingtraining.com. I welcome these emails and respond as soon as possible.

6th grade band: 6th grade band is working on note names and fingerings still. They have taken their first playing test and were extremely successful. Please encourage your child to practice at home as much as possible. We are very excited to see how the students progress through the rest of the year.
7th grade band: 7th grade band has completed make up quizzes from last quarter. We are now in the process of chair testing and hope that it will have a positive impact on the band. Students will be tested anonymously and will then be placed in chairs based on their scores. Please encourage your student to practice at home.
8th grade band: 8th grade band has begun work on our new concert music for December and we are already working extremely hard. These kids are showing me what they are made of and I could not be more proud of them!
7th and 8th grade wire choir: Wire choir is starting our next round of pre and post tests for chord progressions. They have done really well and I am so proud of each and every one of them.
Cherrydale orders will be ready for pickup on November 17.
As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us via email at sglynn@fulton58.org or kneudecker@fulton58.org.

HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
AND THEY PROVED THAT MONDAY NIGHT!
I am so proud of the display of musicianship and professionalism on part of the Hornet Singers at their Fall Vocal Concert. What a way to start the year!
With that said, we are now jumping into Christmas repertoire that we received today and looking ahead with great anticipation! We can't wait to show you how far we've come when we see you again in December!
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)
HARMONY HORNETS:
We had yet another great rehearsal last Tuesday and we are SO EXCITED to meet once again this Tuesday! Our amazing group is made up of a mixture of 6th-8th grade (7th/8th band or guitar members) and has great energy and interest in making great music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 3:20 - 4:15 in the FMS choir room (G07).
This group will not make it's debut for the year until December!
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.
HORNET PRIDE:
Hornet Pride Choir is celebrating an outstanding Fall Concert! Many thanks to students, families, and community members who attended the concert, and who have supported these students throughout the rehearsal period! One of the great pictures from our concert is posted below.
We are moving on to our repertoire for the December concert now! This is the beginning of the music learning phase, which means lots of hand signs and solfege work. I'm truly impressed the focus each student is demonstrating in class. Keep it up!
PLEASE REMEMBER that choir members MUST be in uniform at ALL of our performances this year. You may purchase the required polo shirt by bring $13 ($15 for XL) to Dr. Moebes. You will receive a receipt for your payment.
ARTS ALIVE:
We are off to a great start! Arts Alive students have been learning and practicing the fundamentals of good singing, including posture, deep breathing, and concentration. We are also working on our rhythm unit. Students have completed a pretest to see what they remember from elementary music. We are reviewing note names and values, as well as composing and choreographing our own rhythmic "dance". Excellent creativity in this bunch!

Art News
This week we are continuing projects in both 7th and 8th grade from last week. The students are working hard, and I am seeing great things happening in the creative process. We should be wrapping up and moving on next week or so.
6th Grade is beginning a line unit, and we are starting to build our community, and adapt to the new classroom. We just finished up introduction exercises and learning what a Value Scale is. So far we are off to a great start!
Parents can you help to remind and make sure your sixth grader has a “fine tip” and an ‘ultra fine” tip Sharpie marker as well as a wooden pencil with them everyday in Art Class. These tools are very important for the duration of their time in Art.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Artfully yours,
Mr Chapman

Goals...
On Wednesday of this week we celebrated Red Ribbon Week with "Make Your Dreams Come True". This particular day was to give the students (and some of the teachers) the opportunity to consider and represent what their "dream occupation" is. We had a variety of things represented ranging from: a stay at home mom (possibly the toughest job ever) to business professionals (still very tough), and even a few that were aspiring to be the newest Youtube sensation.
Seeing all of the costumes and hearing all of the stories of what the students were wanting to be got me to thinking about the resources that a lot of these same students are accessing and being provided from FMS. Every day we have students that are accessing books on topics ranging from hunting and fishing to coping with family struggles. Here is the thing really strikes me, all of the dreams that got shared are absolutely achievable goals. I heard a quote once regarding our goals that went like this, "Goals are just dreams with a deadline."
We are hoping to help transition dreams into goals by equipping the students in a multitude of areas, one of which is pursuing the dreams with steps. Maybe it's passing math class to enable the next step, maybe it's learning about a foreign culture so that they can pursue the next step, maybe it's achieving a level of fitness that allows for the next step. It is our hope that we encourage, equip, empower, and model dream pursuit for all of our students! Have a fantastic weekend, dream big, and take steps to go get those dreams.
Feel free to contact me at jjackson@fulton58.org with any questions or concerns.
