iPad Usage in Primary School at GEMS Metropole
- Next academic year, GEMS Metropole will continue to use iPads in Primary, from Year 1 to Year 6.
- Why do we want to do this? We are fully committed to protecting our students through high quality e-safety, purposeful educational use and innovative teaching. Using Apps such as TimesTables Rockstars has seen students make significant gains in key areas of learning and we wish to fully capitalize on that.
- If you are a family who is new to GEMS Metropole, you will be able to purchase your child’s iPad through the JTRS scheme below ensuring that the iPad is already fully compliant.
- All students will need to have an iPad capable of running the latest version of iOs 11.
Who are JTRS?
- JTRS are Apple Solutions Expert in Education.
- They are based in Dubai and have over 10 years experience in the UK supporting education and businesses.
- JTRS will help you to have a straightforward purchasing and set-up experience.
- In the event that a purchased iPad should need repair, being an Apple authorised service centre the iPads will be collected onsite through the school, repaired, delivered and enrolled back to school Management system.
How much will the iPad bundle cost and what will it include?
The total cost of the iPad bundle is 1,500.00 AED (excluding VAT). This includes an educational discount.
Your iPad bundle will include the following:
- Latest model 128GB Wifi 9.7 inch iPad
- Apple Charger
- iPads purchased through JTRS will be added directly to the school's DEP, which helps with easier enrollment. (This is removed when students leave the school)
Additional items to be purchased separately
- Nutkase protective cover in choice of 8 colours with GEMS Metropole school embossed logo
- JTRS will also offer a 3-year extended warranty plan should parents wish to purchase it separately - Next day collect, repair and return to school site (not including physical damage)
- If you are a returning family or a new family but already have a personal iPad (capable of running iOs11), your child can continue with this until you are able to purchase one through the school scheme.
Who will own the iPad?
You are purchasing the latest 128GB Apple iPad with charger and cover, so you own everything.
We already own an iPad, can we send it to school?
In the event that you already own an iPad that is capable of running iOs 11 onwards (2016+ ) then the school is happy to allow these to be brought in and used at the school.
However, in order for the school to ensure it is managed and under the schools 'e-safety management system’, the iPad would need to be enrolled into the schools Mobile Device Management software and capable of running Apple Classroom. For this to happen, we would require you to agree to the school's ‘Acceptable Usage Policy’ and be wiped clean of unnecessary ‘non educational’ content.
As these iPad's cannot be enrolled into the full school system (DEP), we will require you to remind your child that they must accept any updates provided by the school and not to amend the settings in any way. (By purchasing a new iPad via the e-store this will ensure ‘Full control’ is provided by the school.)
As a change from this year, we are arranging that your iPads will be controlled by the school MDM system only when it is in school. Once students leave the school campus, the iPad reverts to some personal control. The iPad will still be enrolled on the MDM, which limits unintended inappropriate usage. It is the responsibility of parents to monitor the use of the iPads outside of the school campus.
Will it come home every day?
Students and parents will be responsible for the iPads going to and from school daily and it will be an expectation that iPads are brought in fully charged every day. In case of inappropriate behavior or content on the iPad in school, parents will be informed directly and the necessary action will need to be taken to remove such content.
Can I have control of the iPad while it’s at home?
When at home the iPad will retain the some of the security and other settings that they have in school to help keep the device maintained, safe and secure.
The enrolment of the device onto the MDM will enable certain security restrictions on the device. When under school WiFi and our firewall, the school's web filter system will block certain websites whilst the MDM controls App and management. The MDM will also assist in safety against loss by enabling remote wipe, lockdown and also to locate the devices if lost. It will also allow the school to push through required applications when they are needed.
When will I need to replace my iPad and bundle?
It is proposed that you will have to replace your iPad every three (3) years due to the technological advancements by Apple and in order for your iPad to function optimally with the Metropole's School’s infrastructure.
How you can purchase ‘The Metropole iPad Bundle?’
- JTRS have created an online e-store to help you choose your iPad bundle. This store is now open for you to make your purchases. It is absolutely vital that you place your order before July 30th 2018. Any order placed after this date is unlikely to be ready in time.
- Please go to www.jtrs.ae and click on the ‘Sign Up’ in the top right hand side. The link is also available on our website.
- Once on the ‘Sign Up’ page, please choose ‘GEMS Metropole School’ in the School name category and fill in the rest of the sign up details. Once you have completed all fields, please click ‘Send’
- You will receive an email (please check filters if nothing arrives quickly) where you can click on the ‘Set your password’ link. Please click this link and create your password and make a note of this. This may take a few minutes.
- Once you are logged in, you will be presented with an iPad. We have deliberately limited the choice available for purchase to simplify the process.
- Once you have selected your iPad you will see an option for the case where you need to choose which colour you would prefer. (Please make sure you click ‘Add to Cart’ after you have chosen your preferred colour)
- Once you have chosen your iPad and case, please ‘Proceed to checkout’ where you can review your items you have chosen. If you wish to change any item in the basket, please remove the ‘iPad’ and this will take you back to the store where you can start the process again.
- When you are happy with the items you have chosen, click ‘Process Checkout’ at the bottom of the page and you will taken to the ‘Invoice and shipping’ address page.
PLEASE NOTE ALL ITEMS WILL ONLY BE SHIPPED TO THE SCHOOL AND NOT TO YOUR HOME ADDRESS
- Please click ‘Confirm’ and you will taken to the final stages where you can review your basket and choose the method of payment of ‘Credit / Debit Card (Telr)’, and click ‘Pay Now’
- When you choose ‘Telr’, you will be taken to another page where you can make your payment online. Once the payment has been taken, you will be taken back to the website where you will see a confirmation of your order.
- Once you payment has been received and allocated to your order, you will receive a confirmation email and an invoice.
