## What is a Polynomial? What is factoring?

A

**is a function consisting of several different terms and variables.**__polynomial__** Factoring** is finding the numbers, values, or expressions that can be multiplies together to get a number or function.

## Click on the section titles for helpful videos :)

## When to use?

Applicable

__only__when there are 4**OR**more terms ## Equitation Here is an example 4 term polynomial. | ## Step 1 First, group the terms into pairs. Here they are grouped into two different pairs, the yellow pair and the orange pair. | ## Step 2 Factor out a GCF from each pair. |

## Step 3 Take the terms that you have factored out of the two pairs and put them together into parentheses. | ## Step 4 Once a GCF is taken out of the pairs, the remaining parentheses should be the same. | ## Step 5 Here is the final factored parentheses in simplest terms for the example. This example gives the answer that x= 2, -2, 1/5. |

## Step 3

Take the terms that you have factored out of the two pairs and put them together into parentheses.

## Equitation Here is an example equitation for the sum of 2 cubes | ## Step one Find (a+b) | ## Step Two Plug in (a^2-ab+b^2) The trinomial part will NEVER factor to more simpler terms! |

## Equitation Here is an example equitation for the difference of 2 cubes | ## Step 1 Find (a-b) | ## Step 2 Plug in (a^2+ab+b^2) Again, the trinomial part will NEVER factor to more simpler terms! |
