What is Missouri Girls State?
Missouri Girls State (MGS) was first established in 1940 as one of 11 Girls State programs in the nation. The purpose of Missouri Girls State is to promote civic pride and to create a mythical state that the citizens will govern at the city, county and state level. Girls State offers students a unique opportunity for hands-on experience in learning all aspects of how governments function. Students will also interact with guest speakers who serve as leaders in the Missouri government and hold important offices in our communities.
The 2016 session will be held from June 26 through July 2 on the campus of University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.
What Traits Make a Good Nominee?
- Currently in her Junior year of high school
- A keen interest in government and current events
- High moral character
- Demonstrated service to others
- Strong leadership abilities
- Above average scholastic achievement
- Excellent communication skills
