Words From The School Counselor
I am excited to have an awesome school year and have lots of great things in store for OXR! Allow me to introduce myself as your school counselor, Ms. Stephens! I am a native of Mobile, Alabama where I graduated from Samuel S. Murphy High School. I earned my undergraduate and one of my graduate degrees from Alabama A&M University. My Bachelor's Degree is in Special Education with a concentration in Mild Learning Behavior Disorders and my Master's Degree is in Guidance and Counseling Psychology and Addiction Counseling from Grand Canyon University. I am a mother of two beautiful teenage daughters. My hobbies include, being pampered, going to the movies, and attending live performances such as plays, comedy shows, open mics, and concerts.
My goal as a school counselor is to help build relationships among the students, families, teachers, and the community. Also, I will be providing large group counseling in classrooms bi-weekly. Topics discussed in guidance include: study skills, test-taking skills, developing positive peer relationships, careers, and conflict resolutions. I will be sending monthly newsletters digitally and/ or with students.
To ensure that we are meeting the needs of both our students and parents, please take a moment and complete the parent needs assessment I will be sending home. Your feedback will help me improve our counseling program. Please complete the parent survey and return the copy to your child’s teacher by September 29, 2017. My contact information is below; feel free to reach out anytime. Thank you for a smooth beginning to the school year and we look forward to another fantastic year!
