Reflections Contest
It’s time to "Look Within" and bring out all our Stallions’ talents! Have you submitted your Reflections entries yet? There is still time! Students reflect on this year’s theme – “LOOK WITHIN” and create original art works in any of six categories. Help celebrate the arts in education by encouraging your student to enter one or more items in the various categories: Visual Arts, Literature, Musical Composition, Dance Choreography, Film Production and Photography. Every student who participates will receive a fun reward ... just for participating! PTA membership (by parent) is required for participation in the Reflections program. Entries can be dropped in the Reflections dropbox in the hallway. The deadline for entering is October 25th.

Parent Referral Information Night for TAG Testing-Nov. 4
This meeting will cover information about our gifted program in RRISD and how we provide services at Sommer. We will cover the testing process, the timeline and steps parents need to take to refer their child for testing. For parents unable to attend, the presentation and timeline will be added to our TAG Team Website afterwards. It is not necessary to contact TAG teachers directly before referring a student.
Veterans Day
Did you know that there is no apostrophe in "Veterans Day"? The celebration was first established in 1928 as Armistice Day and then later changed to honor the veterans of all American wars.
Although the holiday is frequently referred to as "Veteran's Day" or "Veterans' Day," this is actually incorrect. The holiday is not a day that "belongs" to one veteran or multiple veterans, which is what an apostrophe implies....but was actually established to HONOR and celebrate ALL veterans.
Veterans Day is extremely important to us at Patsy Sommer Elementary. As a staff and school community we have fathers, mothers, husbands, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, cousins, as well as staff members themselves who have served our country. We love them and honor them.
We invite you to send pictures of your family members who have served in any of the armed forces for the many countries representing our school community. Forms are on our Sommer website and linked here:
We also invite all of our Stallion family veterans to join us for a reception beginning at 7:00 AM on Friday, Nov. 8. Our whole school assembly and celebration will follow at 7:40 with performances by our choir, honorary speakers and special introductions from our veterans and students. RSVP Here if you will be attending!
