This Weeks Focus
We are still collecting shelf-stable food items for Harvest House. If our class brings in one of each item on the Bingo sheet, we will win a popcorn party! Items are due by Friday, November 12th. See the bingo board below!
We had our first Celebration of Learning on Friday. Some students received awards for their accomplishments in math, reading, and behavior. We want to celebrate our students and their hard work.
In ELA we have begun working on using some mentor sentences to help teach various language skills. We read a children’s book called “The Kissing Hand” and highlighted a sentence from the book and used it to study nouns throughout the week. We will be exploring other books, mentor sentences, and skills in the weeks to come.
The kids have enjoyed learning about Rainbow Silly Sentences this past week. We will continue using it to begin to develop better writing skills.
Students have been using Lexia online each week to increase their reading skills. We have begun to use the Skill Builder portion of the program. Students have individually-assigned lessons they do on paper to reinforce the skills they have recently mastered in their online work. They are excited to complete these paper and pencil tasks as the concepts are things they have been working on. It gives each child a chance to be successful at his/her own Lexia level.
In math we have just finished our unit on subtraction. We will be covering graphing over the next 2 weeks. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas we will work on fractions.
-Please make sure you put your child's name on his/her jackets, hoodies, and water bottles
-Please remind students not to bring toys to school
-Students need to bring headphones for their chromebooks
-Students may bring water bottles to drink in class. Please make sure they bring water and not juice. Students can have juice/other drinks at lunch but we prefer water in class. Spills make for a sticky mess and attract ants.
