World Read Aloud Day - February 5th
Wednesday, February 5, 2020, is World Read Aloud Day. We have the opportunity to have two published children’s authors speak to our students! Lindsay Metcalf will speak to 3rd and 4th graders and Rosie Bosse will speak to students in K-2. Preorder forms were sent home with K-2 students to purchase Rosie Bosse’s books. Be on the lookout for more information for purchasing Lindsay’s books once they are available!
National Anthem at CHS - February 11th
All CES students, grades K-4, have been invited to sing the national anthem on Tuesday, February 11th before the boys basketball game at 7:30p.m. CES students singing the national anthem will get in free to the game! Parents/guardians will need to pay the adult admission fee of $5.00 per person. Students will meet in the CJSHS Library/Media Center at 7:20. We will then head to the gym to sing before the start of the boys game. After completing the national anthem, students will be dismissed to their parents.
Valentine's Day Parties - February 14th
Each grade level will be having their Valentine’s Day party on February 14th. Thank you to all who have signed up to help with the parties. As a reminder, no outside deliveries will be accepted at CES this year. Please refer to the letter that was sent home.

No School - February 21st
CHS has the opportunity to host regional wrestling this year! We are excited for this event. However, due to the increase in the number of schools, students, and fans traveling to the area as well as the need of our staff to help run this even, there will be No School on Friday, February 21st. CAP will be open starting at 7:30am if at least 25 students sign up. If your child attends CAP on this day, they will need to bring a sack lunch. To sign up for CAP, please contact Andrea Jones at 785-275-3636
Early Release - February 26th
There will be a 1:30 dismissal on February 26th due to staff Professional Development. Buses will run at this time. There will be NO afternoon Pre-K or CCDC class. CAP will also be open.
Read Across America
Read Across America is coming on March 2nd! To gear up for this event, CJSHS JAG will be doing all kinds of activities with our students on Tuesday, February 25.
CAP to Be Open Spring Break
Concordia After School Program (CAP) will be open over Spring Break, if at least 20 students enroll. Spring Break CAP is open to any K-6 student. Even if you don’t attend CAP now, you can still enroll for CAP over Spring Break! For more information about Spring Break CAP or the CAP program in general, contact Andrea Jones, director, at 785-275-3636.
A Word from Nurse Loni
We are continuing to have an increased amount of illness at school so we would really appreciate for all parents to follow some simple steps during this flu season to help decrease the spread of all the illness going around.
Please Keep your child home from school when ill.
- Temperature over 99.5
- Vomiting within past 8 hours
- Having frequent diarrhea stools
- Difficulty Breathing
- White part of the eye is red
- Any type of rash
- Persistent coughing
- Your child acts or looks sick
In this event we ask that you keep your child home for 24 hours fever and symptom free without any use of medication before returning to school.
*Practice good hand washing after bathroom and before all meals
Thank you,
Loni Kindel, School Nurse
