KSU Intern

This semester we will be having a KSU intern. Miss Gibson will be joining our class to complete her student teaching! We are very excited for her to learn along with us. She will be with us from January until the first week of May!

Personal Items

Just a reminder that students should not be bringing personal items such as toys, pens, etc. to school.

Public Library Field Trip

2nd Graders have been invited to the Manhattan Public Library for a story time and tour of the library. We will be going on January 14. We will load busses around 8:55am. We will return to Northview by 11:00am for lunch. Parents are invited to meet us at the library at 9:15am!

Northview has outdoor recess unless the temperature (or wind chill) falls below 20 degrees. We make this determination based on information from Weather Bug. Adjustments for indoor recess will be made for inclement weather conditions. Student will need gloves and hats to wear along with their warm coats. If your child needs a warm coat, gloves or a hat, please contact our school social worker, Ms. Thomas. All children will be expected to go outside unless we have a doctor’s note.

Also, when there is snow outside, students will need to be wearing boots in order to leave the blacktop area and play on the equipment.

Music Concert

2nd graders will be having their music concert on January 28 at 6:30pm and January 29 at 1:45pm. They will also be performing at the mall on MLK, Jr. Day. I do not have any information about the mall performance right now, but as soon as Mrs. Davis lets me know, I will let the parents know!

Reading Update

We will be working on many different standards during January. We will be looking at story structure (beginning, middle, end) and locating information in nonfiction texts.

Writing Update

We will start working on a biography project (informative writing) and contractions. We will talk about goals we have for the rest of the school.

Math Update

We will continue working on time and start working on subtraction. We will also start measurement.

Social Studies/Science

Social Studies will be very busy during the month of January. We will read and discuss Martin Luther King, Jr., learn about Kansas history, and work on our biography project.

In Science, we will start our unit on balance and motion!
