GREETINGS
As we finish up the first six weeks, I want to remind you that there are many school events quickly approaching. I want to encourage you to share these experiences with your child as your schedule will permit. I am very happy with the direction our class is going. The students have adjusted well to the rituals and routines of first grade.
CAMP ACADEMICS
READING
Thank you for reading with your child every night. It is VERY important that they bring their Reading Folder back to school every day. When we are in our reading groups, we are learning about sentence structure, correct letter formation, ways to find little words in big words to help us figure out what a word is, working with word families, and talking about parts of a story.
WRITING
We are beginning to write about moments in time. We are isolating a moment and writing about it using our senses. We are talking about adjectives that we can use to make our writing more descriptive.
MATH
We are looking at two digit numbers and deciding how many tens and ones are in the number. A good way to practice that skill is having your child make a T Chart. Have your child separate the tens number from the ones number. Have them give you examples. We are also talking about dimes representing 10s and pennies representing 1s. Finally, we are learning about time to the hour on digital and analog clocks. Also, if you would like a copy of the Hundreds Chart we use in class, please let me know, and I will send one to you for home use.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Being a responsible citizen and making good choices are the focus in Social Studies at this time.
Choices and Decisions
"If it feels the slightest bit wrong, it probably is. DON'T DO IT.
SCIENCE
We will be working on heat, light, and sound energy. You might ask your child what their room at home would be like without heat/sound/light energy.
Pearls of Wisdom:
Winners are too busy to be sad,
too positive to be doubtful,
too optimistic to be fearful,
and
too determined to be defeated.
