LEARNING RESOURCES TO COMBAT CORONA BOREDOM
Arleta students and families,
On Friday, students were allowed to come to the library to stock up on reading material for the extended break! Please use these to provide your student with daily reading time until they return to school. To prevent germ spread, you may use a Chlorox wipe (or similar disinfectant) to wipe the books’ covers. This was also provided at school.
Also, please use the resources below that access online books and educational games. I recommend giving your students at least 30 minutes each day of reading, and another 30 minutes doing something educational. Try BBC Typing for K-3 and Typing.com for 4th-8th grade. Also, Free Rice is a wonderful trivia resource that supports the World Food Programme that has core subjects and more available to choose from.
Above all, stay well and use this time to recharge your batteries. I look forward to seeing you all again soon,
Sincerely,
Treasa Street Arleta Teacher-Librarian

RUN FOR THE ARTS
Arleta's Run for the Arts date has moved from April 10 to April 17, which gives us more time to collect pledges! The money raised is used for performances, workshops and residencies with professional teaching artists, field trips and art supplies.
Your child's participation in the Run is voluntary, but we hope you will encourage them to join, have fun and support our school. We also invite you to help out by volunteering before, during or after the run with our Run for the Arts coordinator, Kianne Noakes
Please help your child in the following ways:
- Read the Run for the Arts Sponsor Sheet that your child brings home
- Sign the "Parent/Guardian Agreement" and fill in a t-shirt size for your child. T-shirts are a potential prize your child can earn
- Register your child to collect online donations on runforthearts.ya-or.org. Students can collect donations online, in person or both.
- Assist your child in collecting donations from family, friends, and neighbors by sharing the online link or by collecting in person donations.
- Help your child follow the timeline listed below so deadlines are not missed.
SPONSOR SHEETS DUE: April 17th .
RUN FOR THE ARTS DATE: April 17th. School Run Day. After the Run, Sponsor Sheets will be returned to the students for the Collection Period.
FUNDS DUE: April 24th. Funds and Sponsor Sheets MUST be turned in to the school by this date.
With your help, our school will have an outstanding Run for the Arts. THANK YOU!

CONGRATS OBOB PARTICIPANTS!
An extra congratulations to the Space Cats (Donovan Freeman, Cal Kupper, and Samantha Thomas) who represented our middle school at Regionals held right here at Arleta! We hosted 19 teams from around the metro area with the help of an army of volunteers that included Principal Horn, Eric Flagel, Amy Lumbreras, Treasa Street and many wonderful students and parents.
Congratulations as well to The Lizard Beasties (Rose Dean, Harvey Doré and Reed Kellon) who were slated to represent our 3-5 division, before their Regionals had to be canceled.
Thank you to all of the students for your dedication and hard work - we hope you had fun! Thank you to all the parent coaches, volunteers, and coordinators for supporting our students! And, most importantly, a HUGE thank you to Treasa Street who makes it possible for our school to participate in OBOB.
We hope you are excited for next year! It's never too early to start reading next year's titles!
SPRING PICTURE DAY IS APR. 3
We need 3 volunteers that can help the process run smoothly. If you're available to help, starting at 8:15 on April 3, please email ArletaSchoolPTA@gmail.com

SUPPORT THEATER CLUB & SEND BEST WISHES TO THE PRODUCTION TEAM
This May, Arleta Theater Club will be presenting One Bad Apple, an original comedy based on the tale “Snow White”, by Charlotte Nixon. This is a volunteer run production. All actors are students at Arleta School. Students and families work side by side to create costumes, sets, props, choreography, directing, sound and lights.
Support the Arleta Theater Club and send best wishes to participants in One Bad Apple. Dedications and best wishes will be printed in the program on performance nights. Submissions can be up to 25 words and are donation based (donations go to future Theater Club productions). Pick up a form in the office, or print it here and submit it with your donation to the locked PTA box in the front office to the right of the door.
Submissions due by April 3rd.
APRIL 22 IS EARTH DAY'S 50TH ANNIVERSARY!
Show your care for the earth through a poem or a short audio message. The Eco-School Network will publish your work and contact the local news. You can download a flyer here.

NO COST WAYS TO SUPPORT ARLETA
The Arleta PTA participates in THREE no-cost shopping rewards programs - Fred Meyer Community Rewards, AmazonSmile and Bottle Drop.
1. By linking your Fred Meyer Rewards card to the Arleta PTA and scanning your rewards card when you shop, a percentage of your purchase goes to the PTA. Sign up here. (And you'll still get your cash back rewards!)
2. Amazon has a similar program, called AmazonSmile. Select "Arleta School PTA" as your charitable organization to receive donations when you shop Amazon. Once you sign up, just go to smile.amazon.com to do your usual Amazon shopping. While there is no app, you can create a shortcut on your phone by going to smile.amazon.com in your browser, tap the Share button, then tap Add to Homescreen.
3. Donate your redeemable cans and bottles to Arleta through Bottle Drop. Grab a blue bag from the school office and FILL it up then take it to a Bottle Drop site, OR email arletabottledrop@gmail.com and someone will come pick it up. (Arleta pays a fee for the bags, so let's fill them to the top!)
