Battle of the Books
What is Battle of the Books?
Park Ridge Middle School’s Battle of the Books is a voluntary reading incentive program for students in grades 7 and 8. The purpose is simply to encourage students to read good books and have fun while competing with their peers.
What is a Battle?
A typical “Battle” is a two hour tournament or game, like the College Bowl, in which teams of students earn points by answering questions about the “Battle” books. At the end of the battle, points are totaled and the team with the most points wins. The first and second place teams are invited to compete in the Interscholastic Battle of the Books against another middle school.
How does a student participate in Battle of the Books?
All students must get their parent or guardian to sign the permission slip to compete. A student participates by reading from the book list provided for the Battle of the Books. Students must hand in 5 questions and answers for each book read, on index cards, when they return their books. The questions are used in practices for the Battle of the Books competition.
