Dear Parents / Carers,

The weather has really turned autumnal this week and we are starting to notice the signs that winter is coming around school. Please ensure that your child comes to school with a coat each day as we spend lots of time outside (even in the rain).

We have had another great week in school and children are now settled well into routines and lessons. Next week, we have parent / teacher consultation evenings on Tuesday and Thursday in school for you to discuss your children with their class teacher. Where possible, these meetings should not be attended by the children as it is not always appropriate to talk about a child whilst the child is sat listening. Where there is no other option, we will have a bench in the hall for children to sit and wait whilst their parent(s) are talking to the teacher; however, their behaviour will remain the responsibility of the parents during that time.

We have our Harvest Festival assembly on Wednesday 5th October and as always will be collecting tins and dried foods for the Selby Foodbank. Please bring any donations to school on Wednesday morning as the foodbank will be collecting them later that day.

Finally, well done to our Y6 footballers who represented Kirk Fenton at an event for local schools yesterday.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Karen Williams

Winning Team

The Blue Mustangs are victorious this week. Well done to Lily-Mae, Scarlet and their team.

Well done to everyone that has been practising their maths at home this week. It is great to see the number of children increasing each week. Remember that going on Numbots or TT Rockstars for just 10 minutes a few times a week will really help your child to improve their maths skills.

Special congratulations go to Toby M and Lyla K for super Numbots work this week. Our TT Rockstars certificates go to Sam O, Sam C, Scarlett B and Georgia K. Well done everyone!

Message from Head Pupils

This week the Y5 and Y6 football team took part in a football tournament. They came 6th out of 8 school but were told they played terrific matches and did not give up. Next week is an exciting week because on Wednesday it is Harvest Festival, so don't forget your donations of tinned food. Have a safe weekend.

Head Pupil certificate went to Lucie-May and Zion.

Usbourne Book Fair

On Thursday 13th October, from 3pm, there will be an Usbourne book fair on the playground (or in the hall if the weather is not good). There will be a wide selection of books for children of all ages and school receives money towards books for our library too, so please support the fair if you can. As we are racing towards Christmas, the fair will start at 3pm to give parents and carers a chance to look for potential presents before you collect your children.

Lunch Hall

This week in school, we have been thinking about how we can show our value of respect in the hall at lunchtime. Some children have needed reminding that food needs to stay on our plate and that we use cutlery to cut our food up, so we are having a focus over the next few weeks on how we can ensure all children can enjoy their lunch in a calm and respectful space. It would be great if you could support us with this at home by encouraging these good habits.

Parent Governor Vacancy

We have a vacancy for Parent Governor with school. Please see email which went out earlier this week or contact the school office for more information. Closing date is 6th October.

Harvest Festival

We will be celebrating Harvest and thinking about thankfulness in school on 5th October with the worship that day led by our new Head Pupils and Year 6 Team captains. Although we don't have room to invite parents to the worship, we would be very grateful for any donations of tinned or dried goods which we then donate to the Selby Food Bank. They are particularly in need of tinned spaghetti, baked beans, tinned custard and rice pudding as well as tinned soups if you are able to help. Please bring items to school on 5th October and the food bank will collect them that day. Thank you.
