A Message from our Principal, Mr. Pflugrath...
Dear Osbourn Family,
I hope this finds you safe and well. The first quarter interims are available for your review on Tuesday, September 14th through the parent portal in PowerSchool. If you have any questions on your student’s academic progress, please reach out and we will partner with you to set your student up for success.
Thank you to the PTSA for hosting our first Saturday Learning Seminar yesterday. It was a great success. You are all invited to our next PTSA meeting on Wednesday, September 15th in the Library at 6:30 pm. We had a really nice turnout of parents and students at our last meeting and value your input. In case you missed it, the Virtual Back to School Night videos are still available for your review on our website under announcements.
I would like to thank all of our Families who have been able to make it out to our athletic events over the past few weeks. It has been nice to see you all out cheering on our student-athletes and participants and enjoying a sense of normalcy through their extracurriculars. We had a good crowd at the Osbourn – Osbourn Park football game. The Band was impressive and a joy to listen to. The Cheer Team was terrific as usual and I enjoyed cheering alongside the team. I dare not forget the impressive Student Section who showed up in numbers and were well represented and heard. It was inspirational to see so many students participating and being so involved with our school spirt. And let us not forget the work put in by the Osbourn Football Team. They played well all over the field. I am so proud of how they have become such a close team and have all the hallmarks of the Osbourn Family of a caring and inclusive culture. Great to see the positive school spirit with great community support.
A friendly reminder for our students, we have our Club Fair during school on Thursday, September 16th. Please consider signing up for a club and getting involved. The more you put into school, the more you will get out of it.
As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
#OneOsbourn!
Sincerely,
Mike Pflugrath

PSAT/NMSQT Testing
All Parents of 9th, 10th, and 11th Grade Students,
Osbourn High School is pleased to announce plans to offer the Preliminary SAT (PSAT)/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT) to students in grades 10-11 and our 9th graders will take the PSAT 9 this fall. The test will be administered on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, and will be free of charge to enrolled OHS students. The purpose of this letter is to provide general information about the PSAT/NMSQT School Day opportunity.
The PSAT/NMSQT is a standardized test that measures mathematics and evidence-based reading and writing. The test focuses on reasoning skills, knowledge, and comprehension. It is designed to promote college readiness while preparing students for college entrance assessments. The PSAT 9 test’s your child’s reading, writing and math skills and the questions are grade appropriate for 9th graders. Information about test content and format can be found on the College Board PSAT/NMSQT webpage.
The PSAT/NMSQT is co-sponsored by the College Board and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. While only students in grade 11 are eligible to compete for National Merit Scholarships, students in grades 9 and 10 who take the PSAT 9 and PSAT/NMSQT gain excellent practice for the PSAT/NMSQT in grade 11 and the SAT college entrance assessment.
Important notes about testing:
- Students will NOT need to register for the test in advance – a test will be available to every 9th, 10th, and 11th grader at Osbourn High School on October 26.
- PSAT/NMSQT administration begins in the morning, according to regular school start times.
- High school off-site courses are not held on October 26; Governor’s School, JROTC, and Nursing staff will support base school activities, and all high school shuttles are canceled on this date.
- Transportation is available to all students who regularly use OHS bus transportation.
We will share exam day schedules and additional details in the coming weeks. If you have questions about the PSAT/NMSQT/PSAT 9 administration at Osbourn High School, please contact Karen Murphy, OHS School Test Coordinator, at kmurphy@mcpsva.org or at 571-377-7021.
Club Day at OHS
Club day is Thursday September 16th during advisory class. Advisory class will be extended from 8:20-9:50. This will take place in the main gym and commons area. There will be many clubs and athletic teams on display. This will give students a chance to see all the clubs and sports teams available at Osbourn and get involved with our school. Students will have 25 minutes to look around and sign up for any clubs/athletics they are interested in.
