7 Habits at Home Activity for November
This month’s Habit: Habit 1 Be Proactive
Activity: Circle of Control
Due Date: November 30th
Invest In Your Child
We are grateful for the families who have made donations to the IIYC campaign so far. We had $1,070 contributed this past week alone. We have raised about $ 7,100 this year in total. We are still in need of more families to contribute to meet last year’s $10,000. We hope to even exceed that amount to ensure all PTA activities/events continue. There is still time to support the PTA by returning your IIYC form. You do not need to be a PTA member to make a donation. The PTA supports every student. You can make a difference for all our students and teachers.
Detroit Red Wings School Assembly
Make sure to wear your Detroit Red Wings gear or colors this Friday. The PTA scheduled this assembly, which only visits a school every 5 years. The assembly provides a positive message for students about the importance of education and a healthy lifestyle. Silver Springs will receive a set of Street Hockey equipment at end of the assembly.
Look for an order form to sell tickets for the Duel In The D (U of M vs. MI State) for Silver Springs Family Night at Little Ceasars Arena to come home in your child’s Monday envelope on December 4th. The college hockey game is February 10th at 7 PM. The Silver Springs PTA will receive $5 for each ticket sold. All order forms will be due no later than December 15th. All the details and student benefits are in the flyer.

Raising a Self, Not A Selfie - The Mighty Me Project - November 28th at Ridge Wood Elementary
Presented by Cheryl Jones
Ever-increasing expectations and inescapable social media magnify the internal pressures that children experience every day. The development of self-awareness and emotional problem-solving skills are essential for children to successfully navigate their complex lives. Building these capacities in childhood enhances lifelong identify and the opportunity for optimal academic achievement.Children count on their parents to help them interpret reality and develop perspectives. This happens best through comfortable and honest discussions about life experiences. The Mighty Me Project provides parents with a series of specific interations that are easily incorporated into daily life. These simple strategies strengthen the parent-child connection, expand self-awareness and create tools for emotional problem-solving.
Parent workshops are scheduled in conjunction with PTA meetings at each elementary school, with an open invitation for parents to attend the session of their choice. Follow Up Sessions (Part 2) will be scheduled in Winter/Spring 2018.
Please see the attached flyer for specific dates and times!

Supporting the The 7 Habits at home!
Habit 1 – Be Proactive – “I’m in Charge of Me”
What this means: Take charge of your own life. Make it happen. Don't wait for someone else to do it.
“I am responsible for me.”
“I do the right thing before I am asked.”
“I do the right thing even when no one is looking.”
“I do not blame others for my actions.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. If you do something wrong, say you are sorry before someone asks you to apologize.
2. When you get mad and want to say something, stop, think, and ask yourself-
Why am I getting so angry? Make a good choice in a good way.
