Track In Meeting

There will be a track in meeting on 3/24/16 @ 9:30a.m. in the media center.

McTeacher Night ~ Action Required by All Staff

I am so excited to partner with the community and PTA for our school to do a McTeacher Night for our students and the community/Cheetah Pride Night for PTA. McTeacher Night is a great evening where I am asking staff to volunteer their time (30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, etc) to greet students and work at McDonald's. We will serve food to students and their families and all enjoy a night out together. Bring your families too! This can be used as make-up time. The event is going to be held at the Holly Springs McDonald's from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Tuesday, April 5th. We are still in need of volunteers! It would be nice to have alot of staff at the event.

I have also created a sign-up genius for you to indicate that you can come for the event. We need your help making this event a success! If all spots fill up on the sign up, YOU CAN STILL PARTICIPATE!

Read To Achieve Camp

There will be a Read to Achieve Camp for 1st and 2nd graders this year. The 2016 schedule for 1st/2nd grade Read to Achieve Camps (Tracks 2 & 3) are as follows:

Track 3

  • Week 1: April 22nd

  • Week 2: April 25th-April 29th

  • Week 3: May 2nd-May 6th

Track 2

  • Week 1: May 17th-May 20th

  • Week 2: May 23rd-May 27th

Week 3: May 31st-June 1st

Read to Achieve ~ Action Required for 1st & 2nd Grade Teachers to read

Just keeping you in the loop regarding Read to Achieve updates that are beginning to come out for 1st and 2nd grade. Click HERE to read.

Elementary Parent Portal

The parent portal will deployed for parents. The modules open to parents are attendance for the current term, school information, student contacts information, transportation information beginning for 2016-2017 school year, courses scheduled to students, and rising 6th grade electives selection. There will be a letter explaining the opening of the HomeBase/Powerschool parent portal both in English and in Spanish (front/back). The second sheet is the Application for Access HomeBase/PowerSchool Parent portal letter in English only. We have Spanish applications available upon request. These will be in your boxes a day before the date outlined below for your track. The parents will need to come into the school with their application/ID and the office will provide them the access letter. Holly Springs Elementary will deploy HomeBase/PowerSchool Parent Portal in the following manner:

  • 5th grade students will receive the letters and applications for tracks 2, 3, & 4 beginning Friday, March 11th. Track 1 letters will be mailed.

  • Track 4 students in Kindergarten-4th grades will receive letters and applications beginning March 16, 2016.

  • Track 3 students in Kindergarten-4th grades will receive letters and applications beginning March 30, 2016.

  • Track 2 students in Kindergarten-4th grades will receive letters and applications beginning April 13, 2016.

  • Track 1 students in Kindergarten-4th grades will receive letters and applications beginning April 27, 2016.

Teacher Working Conditions Survey ~ Action required by all certified staff

The 2016 NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey is open for responses March 1 – 25th. You need to see Ms. Lanane to check your name off the list and get a code. If you have not completed this survey, please do so ASAP. 100% participation is VERY important!

2016-2017 Mentor Training ~ Action required by any interested staff members

It is with great excitement that we announce the 2016-17 Mentor Training schedule. Mentoring promotes teacher retention within the school district and provides leadership opportunities for veteran teachers. The application and flyer can be found HERE and HERE for any teachers that may have an interest in becoming a mentor. I would love to have a 1:1 ratio as a goal for our BT’s and I need YOU! Mrs. Clark :) Contact Ms. Davenport with any questions.

Employee Transfer Period ~ Action required by all staff interested in transferring

The Transfer Period for employees interested in transferring for 2016-17 is open on the district website. Please make sure you follow procedures if you are interested in a transfer. This will include applying on Applitrack.

Job Fair~Action Required by staff interested in transferring to another WCPSS school

The Wake County Transfer Fair and Job Fair are combined this year. Any employee interested in transferring to Oakview or another school in Wake County must apply via Applitrack. You can also attend the job fair. The flyer found HERE includes the information. More information will become available when the transfer period opens.

EOG Dates

Our EOG dates have been finalized for the end of the year. I am sending out information to parents with informational dates, etc. We are almost there and this will go to all families. In the meantime, you can share these dates, publicize them on your website, and share with parents how important it is that children are here. It is imperative that staff are here. Mark your calendars now as I expect staff to be present! The testing dates can be found HERE.

Mark Your Calendar ~ Action required by all staff

The AA (previously OSP) days for 2016-2017 school year have been confirmed by the district. July 7, 2016 is the dates that Central Services staff will schedule updates and collaborative sessions with different groups. Also, Meet the Cheetahs & Beyond (formerly known as Meet & Greet) will occur on July 7, 2016 for tracks 1, 2, & 3. Track 4 will occur on July 28, 2016. This has been decisions made by the Leadership Team. Finalizations on times will be announced at a later date.

Adaptive Schools Strategies

Administrators have been receiving the Adaptive Schools training. Some of the strategies presented have been utilized in professional development at the school this year by Ms. Lanane and Ms. Clark (spend a buck, small fires, line ups, etc.). The strategies have all been posted in shared folder in a folder titled Adaptive Schools. While some of them are just good practice and are already being done in the building, and some are only applicable to professional meetings, many could be adapted for your classroom and used with your students. Just for starters you could check out partner report, corners, AB-each teach, give one get one, one word summary and text rendering.
