Mission Trip to Africa
Tyler Peterson, Ground Disturbance Coordinator in Bemidji, MN, recently ventured to Africa with his wife, Ashley, on a mission trip through their local church. Their adventure took them to Uganda, Africa for three weeks to help a local Christian organization called Youth With a Mission. While on this trip they were involved in several activities such as repairing and painting two pre-schools, planting crops on a self-sustaining farmland and coordinating recess activities with the school children. The timing worked out great for the pair, as work was slowing down in Bemidji and it provided the perfect window to travel somewhere that was in need of help. Tyler and Ashley were also excited to go on this trip to meet Jackson, the child that they sponsor through Compassion International. Prior to this trip they had corresponded by letters and pictures, but meeting him and his family was a highlight of their trip. “It was such a blessing to meet him and his family in person,” said Peterson, “…spending time with him in person was very special for us.” After an incredible trip with many lasting memories and experiences, it was no surprise that one of their least favorite parts of the trip was coming home. “If anyone ever has an opportunity to go on a missions trip we strongly encourage them to do so. We went on this trip expecting to help some people, and were able to do so, but we felt the people there had a bigger impact on our lives than we had on theirs. Most Ugandans live on about $1 per day, and yet they are so grateful for the little that they have. It has helped us realize how fortunate and blessed we really are to live in the United States,” says Peterson.
Thank you for your inspiring story Tyler & Ashley!
