Dear Families,

It's hard to believe we are already in quarter 4 and ready to welcome the month of May. Teachers have continued to work hard to plan fun and engaging lessons for students. Please continue to remind students to engage in their learning even when they are at home. We love to see their smiling faces even when they are not in the building. We are continuing to celebrate students use of Lexia. Continue to check in with your child and remind them to complete their minutes/units each day. This may be different for each student so if you have questions don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher.

Yesterday you should have received an FCPS Find Out First message regarding an update following today’s Board of Education meeting. During a special Board of Education work session yesterday, the Board voted to rescind its April 14th decision to return elementary school students for four days of in person instruction weekly if families desired that option. Despite this change, the Board and FCPS Leadership, along with our TES staff, remain committed to returning as many students to the building as possible while adhering to health and safety protocols. As we await further direction, please know TPS staff continue to be available to support your child, and your family, in the fully virtual or hybrid learning formats. As soon as we have information, we will share it with you.

Let's Celebrate our teachers and staff

May 3rd begins a very important week at Thurmont Elementary School. We would like to take some time to celebrate and thank our teachers and staff for all that they do to support our students. All Staff members work hard every year but especially this year have worked to learn and adjust their teaching to make the best decisions for their students. Since TES currently does not have an active PTA we are asking for community help to celebrate all of the work that is done each day. There are at least two opportunities that you can support our staff as shared below.

Monday, May 3rd- Schoology email blast to teachers. Students can send messages to show gratitude to their teachers.

Wednesday, May 5th- Mrs. Schwiegerath and Mrs. Putnam will be handing out restaurant gift cards to staff. If you would like to donate gift cards, we will be at TES on Monday, April 26th from 5-6 pm in the front car rider circle to meet families and collect any donations for Teacher Appreciation Week.

PTA for 2021-2022 School Year

Are you interested in becoming more involved in your school community? Do you want to help enhance your child’s learning experiences? If so, we need YOU!

We are looking for committed, caring and collaborative individuals to help serve on a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Board. We believe a PTA plays an important role in the lives of the students, families and staff in our schools. We know that building a strong PTA will benefit our entire school community.

Please contact Heather Putnam ( or 240-236-0900) if you are interested in supporting our Thurmont Elementary & Primary Schools (TEPS) PTA.
