Exam prep and Attendance waiver
January 4, 2016
Richlands High School Parents,
As you know, we are quickly approaching the end of the first semester. This is an important time when students and teachers are working quickly and diligently to wrap up their course content, finalize class projects, and prepare for exams on January 17-20.
To maximize the opportunity for student success, we ask the following of you as our partners in education:
1. Please ensure students are in school and on time every day so that they can engage in class activities and instruction.
2. Monitor assignments, homework, and projects that the students need to turn in before the end of the semester. Use the PowerSchool Parent Portal and teacher contact as your best source of information.
3. Ensure that students study and prepare fully for all exams.
Also, please pay very close attention to your son/daughter’s attendance. The Onslow County Board of Education policy is that students with more than 10 absences in a class will not receive credit for that course. Please note that this includes EXCUSED AND UNEXCUSED absences.
For students that have accumulated eleven or more absences, they may apply for a waiver. In order to qualify for a waiver, all absences must be listed as excused. Any student with unexcused absences is not eligible for a waiver.
Absence excuse notes must be turned into guidance no later than 2:30pm on January 11. Students wishing to apply for a waiver must also pick up an application and return it to the RHS front office no later than 2:30 on January 11.
We look forward to the successful completion of the academic semester. Please contact us with any questions you may have.
Regards,
Brad Staley,
Principal
