Portrait of an Eagle Takes Flight
Last spring, CVSD engaged more than 100 community partners including parents, high school students, business leaders, elected officials, and our staff to create CV's Portrait of an Eagle. The Portrait represents the skills and dispositions we hope CV students will have upon graduation from Cumberland Valley. The Portrait Design Team also utilized input from a large number of parents, staff, and students.
The Design Team identified three essential skills: Communication, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving. In addition, they identified three essential dispositions: Adaptability, Confidence, and Empathy. A seventh area of focus, Responsibility, was also identified. Responsibility includes both essential skills and dispositions and will be the first area of focus for all staff members in the District.
CVSD staff members will be working over the next several school years to update and embed specific skills instruction into our academic programs to ensure that all students have opportunities to develop the skills identified. In addition, we will continue to work on creating learning environments that foster the development of the identified dispositions.
Dr. Christopher created the short video below to describe the process CVSD used to create our Portrait and how Portrait of an Eagle will be implemented. A text file of the video can be found here.
1:1 Device Insurance
As a reminder, the deadline to enroll in our voluntary 1:1 device insurance program is November 4, 2022. Cost is $25 per student per year, with waivers in place for families facing economic hardship and families with four or more students. While not required, we strongly encourage parents/guardians to take advantage of this program as this optional insurance will help to decrease the out-of-pocket expenses families may have related to device damage.
Please reference the email sent to all families on September 15, 2022, for more enrollment details. Additionally, more info about the 1:1 program, including details about damage/insurance and device care/support, is also available on our website by clicking here.
Live streaming of athletic events
Want to catch your Eagles in action? Cumberland Valley School District posts directly on our Athletic Department webpage the OFFICIAL link(s) for any athletic competition that we are live streaming. We will also post on this page links to CV matchups that are being broadcast by other authorized companies or districts.
Should you wish to watch a live broadcast of an Eagles athletic event, we highly encourage you to only access links if you know that they are legitimate, such as those posted on our website. We cannot confirm authenticity of any other links that might be posted to social media or shared in any other way.
Thank you always for your support of our student athletes. Go Eagles!

Reminder: PA's Free Breakfast Program
Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Friday that beginning on October 1, 2022, all Pennsylvania schoolchildren, regardless of family income, will receive free breakfast for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year. Our Food Service Department is diligently working through the logistics of the program, and we will share more information as it becomes available.
Of important note, this is for breakfast ONLY during the 2022-23 school year.
As a reminder, the national waiver that previously provided free meals during the pandemic has expired. However, if your child qualifies for free meals through the State (also known as direct certified) or if you have completed a free/reduced application and have received a letter stating your child is eligible to receive free meals, they WILL also get free lunch at school. If you have any question regarding your child’s meal status, please do not hesitate to contact the Food Service office.
Families who are not direct certified or who have not already completed an application for the 22-23 school year may CLICK HERE to complete a free/reduced meals application at any time throughout the year to determine eligibility. An application is not required for PA's 2022-23 free breakfast program.

Reminder: Annual Safety Drills
As part of our school safety and security process, and as mandated by law, students and staff in each of our buildings will participate in a school security drill between now and mid October. We recognize that it is critically important to prepare our school community for any potential real-life security incidents by providing our students and staff with these mandated training opportunities.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s building principal should you have any questions.
Please note: Students and staff will continue to practice fire drills on a regular basis throughout the school year.
