Melt in your mouth pleasure

Grilled cheese sandwich

During WW 2, Navy cooks prepared countless grilled cheese sandwich. In 1940s and 50s, these were usually served open face. Around 1965, the second piece was added on top, likely as a way to make the sandwich more filling, and the modern notion of grilled cheese sandwich was born. It's also worth nothing that the actual term grilled cheese doesn't make an appearance in until the 1960s; it was all toasted cheese or melted cheese before then.
