Language Arts/Social Studies
This week in ELA:
We will continue to read our novel, "City of Orphans." We are using the novel daily to help reinforce the objectives we have been learning for Language Arts.
Our objective for the next week is:
RL. 6.1/RI.6.1 Cite textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.
We will also start Unit 2 for Root Words. Students will get new homework on Monday and will be expected to have it completed by Friday.
**Students need to bring their book report novels to school with them everyday. Students have opportunities to read during the day and they should have their novel with them for those times.
Math
MATH
This week in math, students worked on understanding the translation of mathematical word expressions to numerical expressions. Students identified algebraic terms, coefficients, constants and variables. Students will need to continually review their clue words for the operations of math (+, -, x, รท). Students are also going back and practicing the material that was worked on in the beginning of the year.

Science
SCIENCE
Chemical vs Physical changes was for focus our our science activities this week. All substances have properties that we can use to identify them.
Students are completing different activities that reinforce the concept of these changes to matter. For example we can identify a person by their face, their voice, height, finger prints, DNA etc.. The more of these properties that we can identify, the better we know the person. In a similar way matter has properties - and there are many of them. There are two basic types of properties that we can associate with matter. These properties are called Physical properties and Chemical properties. In addition, students are continuing to work on research for their Gateway project and taking notes from their resources.
