A Message From Dr. Ricks
Parents and Friends,
Welcome back from what I hope was a nice break. The school is buzzing with holiday spirit...doors are decorated, gingerbread friends are hung, and the students are excited to attend the ballet and other off-campus events. It has been good to see so many of you at school for all of these festivities and your teachers are busy preparing for end of semester wrap-ups. Our School Christmas program is set for Thursday, December 18 at 6:00; I hope to see you there!
Once again, our Evergreens Sale was a huge success, and it makes me happy to see the greenery hanging all over! Many, many thanks to this year's hard-working committee who helped make it happen: Thanks to Amie Hinkle, Rachel Loftin, Jennifer Coughran and the many other volunteers came to the gym to help organize pick-up.
Our art teacher Ginny Montgomery and her Middle School students are participating in the 4th annual School Art Contest in conjunction with “Christmas on the River” festivities. This year's theme is "Hollywood Holidays," and Mrs. Montgomery and her students are creating a display in a storefront window along Desiard Street in downtown Monroe. Their movie theme is Frosty the Snowman, and they will create a display using non-traditional/recycled materials. The students are excited to be a part of this city tradition, and we will let you know when the window is available for viewing!
Have a wonderful evening,
Dr. Beth J. Ricks
Head of School
A Message From Our Art Teacher - Ginny Montgomery
GES 7th grade is participating in the Downtown Window Decorating Contest. Our window is based on Frosty the Snowman. The students have worked hard using unconventional art materials to represent this well-known Christmas movie. The window is almost complete and will be on display at 227 Desiard Street through the month of December.
Winners will be announced this Thursday night at 6:30 during a press conference hosted by the Downtown Monroe Renaissance group and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. It will be held in the park directly across the street from the windows. Prizes will be awarded at that time!
If at all possible, encourage your students to attend the press conference on Thursday. The Downtown Gallery Crawl will be happening from 5-9pm that evening, so it would be a great night for your students to attend our event and visit the local galleries.
Thanks and hope to see some familiar faces there!
