Amendment in the constitution
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.
Background of the amendment
American states were divided into districts to apply the position of the amendment. It was included so people can have fair trials in court.
My own words for the amendment
people have the right the have fair trials and they should be fast and easy with a impartial judge.
Supreme court case
Gideon v. Wainwright in 1961, in Panama city, Florida. They are going to court because Gideon was arrested for breaking into the Bay Harbor Poolroom with the intent to commit burglary.
The courts choice!
Since he didn't have a lawyer or assistance to help explain his presentation he was put in prison until further notice. Until he had had a lawyer to help him with his presentation he would stay in jail for however long and still be proven guilty.
